The new trailer for what will become the all-time box office champion while also winning all possible awards came out today. The movie is less than a month away. It debuts on February 4, a day that will forever not only be an American holiday, but the day that we declared that we will not go quietly to another Marvel movie! We will not just see more Fast and Furious films! Today, we declare our Moonfall Day!

Plot: The three biggest actions stars of our generation: Samwell Tarly, Halle Berry, and Patrick Wilson (because James Marsden had a low-grade fever that day) combine forces to fight the Moon, or perhaps some sort of alien/AI/sentinence that appears to be inside the moon.

I am happy to organize a private screening at the Cinemark on the Bypass in College Station for the entire Entertainment Board to attend.

As the Moon gets closer to the Earth, that one dude will finally be able to surf a 100-ft wave (maybe even a 200-ft wave)

Do these movies have a contractural obligation to have multiple chases through collapsing-****-oh-****-we-have-to-defy-physics-to-survive-this-wacky-jump scenes?

Also, if they don't find some clever way to use the Apollo 11 flag coupled with a terrible pun, they suck as filmmakers.

This one is going to be legendary

I was waiting for Sam to say the Night's Watch would take care of it.

Opening day, this trailer played in front of my Spider-Man: No Way Home screening, to around 900 people, and when "Bad Moon Rising" kicks in, the place went absolutely apesh*t. A mixture of cheering, clapping, laughing, and genuine excitement. It was honestly kind of amazing.

It played before No Way Home for us as well, and my 12 yr old son looked at me after it was done and said with complete seriousness, "We are going to see that. It looks awesome!"

I looked at him, remembering what it was like to be 12, and responded, "Ok, dude, you got it."

So, we'll be there opening weekend, lol. Wouldn't miss seeing it with him for the world.

Given the director, there needs to be a 3rd act appearance by a reincarnated Captain Steven Hiller fulfilling his dream of reaching the moon and whipping ET's again.

Gerard Butler thanks this film for taking him out of the "Big action movie with completely ridiculous plot that makes people question why it was made" spotlight.

I still watch Geostorm any time I see it while channel surfing. Same with Day after Tomorrow, The Core, San Andreas, Dantes Peak, etc.

EW convinced Roland Emmerich to break the trailer.


A few highlights

"NASA is hiding stuff on a very high level because even the second-in-command doesn't know about it," Emmerich says. "It started with Apollo 11, where there was this two-minute radio silence. During that time, they saw light emanating from the moon's surface. That's when they first realized the moon was hollow."


Berry's character didn't ask to be the person responsible for ensuring the moon doesn't crash into the Earth, but she still steps up to the plate.

. "On the one hand, this is a disaster movie, but it's also a space movie; it's about space exploration and doing crazy things like flying inside the moon. On the other hand, on Earth, their kids are getting into serious trouble. It's the best of both worlds."

Got invited to an early screening tonight as an "AMC investor". Any bets on how bad this is going to be?

This is the kind of movie you sneak in a bottle of whiskey and have a good time with your buddies.

I think the trailer might even be funnier if you removed all dialogue and you just saw the images, heard the generic ominous movie music background, and heard Bad Moon Rising. Maybe leave in just the last joke as far as dialogue.

That movie was...something.

It was exactly what I wanted it to be. Dumb, loud, and fun.

It WAS good for munching on a bucket of popcorn to kill part of an afternoon.

Action sequences defying all laws of physics? CHECK

Cliche dialogue ("If you're wrong, God help you!"...."If I'm wrong, God help us all")? CHECK

Earth 3 seconds away from total obliviation? CHECK

Yep, all the hallmarks of a Roland Emmerich movie. In other words, my 12 year old son loved it and I had a good time watching a ridiculous movie with him.

Wow, Moonfall did only $10M this weekend, coming in #2 behind Jackass Forever at #1, which did $23.5M. I honestly thought it would bring in at least twice what it did, if not more.

On a $140-150 mil budget, too.

I'd say it's the first flop of the year, but did the studios honestly expect that to make back its Money? Feels like The Producers were behind this.
