This has to be a top 10 most miscast movie of all-time. Has to be.

I get Holland being cast… he might look a little young, but I get it.

Wahlberg just looks like his older brother rather than a mentor. He's 50 years old, grey him up a bit and he'd fit better

I think they showed the whole plane scene in that trailer. Is he going to make the big jump into the plane? Yup he his because we're going to go back and show a car hitting him.

Maybe 15 years ago, but that time has long passed.

yeah, he is "old". but still would have been a better option than Tom Holland.

Plus he is only 3 years older than Harrison Ford when he was running around like a fool in Last Crusade.

Big fan of all 4 games but this has the look and feel of a terrible "blockbuster" that the target audience won't even get.

Last of Us HBO on the other hand looks to have extreme potential.

That scene is actually from the game incredibly.

Had no idea they were making this.

Love the games. Uncharted 4 is in my all time top 5.

Don't mind Marky Mark as Sully. Holland as Drake makes no sense. It looks like he's playing Spider-Man just without the suit on.

I haven't played the games, so can someone explain the objection to the Tom Holland casting? Is he too young, too clean-cut, too pretty, what?

Looks really young compared to main timeline Drake, which is why I was hoping for a prequel. He looks quite a bit like teen Drake fr UC3 I think. Also not sure he has the right kind of comedic delivery to play adult Drake.

The reasoning for casting Holland was supposedly they wanted a young actor that could carry it as a series for years but they seem to be blowing their wad with game references and set pieces in this movie so not sure there really is a plan for later entries.

He definitely doesn't have the right comedic style for Drake. He is a good actor though, imo. So we will see.

The trailer doesnt look like a good movie was made, imo. It looks like a bad action movie. We'll see

It looks like they're trying to make a Fast and Furious type of franchise.

Drake is a bit more of a tough guy middle-aged man with a sarcastic/slapstick sense of humor. He's more of a "man's man." You could almost say he was modeled after an Indiana Jones type.

Holland just comes across as a bumbling teenager again, just like Spider-Man (which he's perfect in imo).

It might have worked had it been more of an origin story, let Holland grow into the role and let Marky Mark grow older with him. But what they've done is they've taken a guy in his 30s with an aging mentor-type and turned it into a guy in his early 20s with a mentor in his 40s, doing things that occurred in the game universe later in the timeline.

The trailer showed Holland driving a boat into a secret cove and finding a pirate ship, something that didn't happen until the end of Uncharted 4 (the last game of the series) when Drake was trying to honor his brother who appeared out of nowhere as he was well into middle-age. Him getting older and making this the last quest is a huge part of the story.

Instead, the script has Holland acting out the scenes from a bunch of different games and quests and it makes the story much less powerful. Those stunts all had hours of gameplay and scripting building up to them and that is why they were special. It looks like this is just going to be a bunch of action porn featuring a popular young actor and the depth that made the games special from a story standpoint is pushed aside.

Are there any good video game to movie adaptations? None that I can remember.

Edit - just remembered resident evil.

This looks worse than tomb raider.

Agreed and the story over the course of the 4 games is some of the best in gaming. Like you said, this has sets from several different games which means they've thrown that character growth out the window

I may be in a very weird minority but all 3 Tomb Raiders are upper tier video game movies. I don't mean that as a compliment towards any of the three.

This looks like it could be around the third Tomb Raider with Virklandr type of movie which is not terrible. It's better than most straight to streaming movies.

You're right that the tomb raider movies are near the top for video game movies. (but still not particularly good).

I'd probably rank the hitman movie about the same.

Shockingly, The Sonic movie is actually pretty decent. It didn't try to take itself seriously at all, and the humor was a huge hit with my kids.

When they announced Tom Holland as Drake, I was actually pretty excited, thinking they were going to basically do something where they started with Drake as a kid/teen. It doesn't really seem like that's the route they are going, though.

Also, did they say they were following a map of Magellan? They showed his ring, and they've got set pieces straight from the games, but they aren't going to be searching for Drake's treasure?

Also, where is Elena? That seems like a huge character to leave out of the trailer.

I was really excited about this movie until now. I feel like video games are in the same spot comics were before the MCU. Basically, most of Hollywood producers/writers/directors don't think highly of the source material. They think they are better than it, but are just looking for a quick cash grab. They feel like they have to redo everything, even though it's all been handed to them on a silver platter. You would think Hollywood would see the success of the Super Hero genre now, and realize that fans want to see something that understands the source material and is true to it.

Saw this tonight

I will agree that Holland was a bit miscast as far as nailing Drake but it was highly enjoyable. Unfortunately the Fillion ship has sailed.

Not ground breaking. Not amazing. But critics were way too harsh IMHO.

If you liked National Treasure, I think you'd like this.

I just saw Uncharted last night. It's not a great movie, but it's not a terrible film. The critics are being a little tough on it. It's an ok popcorn flick, and there is a lot that could have been better. That being said, I enjoyed it.

Holland's portrayal of Drake was pretty good. Wahlberg was meh as Sully. I just couldn't get behind him as the character. Sophia Ali was great as Chloe. By the end of the movie, it seemed all had got their strides with their characters.

The first 30 minutes were a slog. The plot pulled pieces from all 4 games, and mashed them up. I felt like the movie covered a lot of what is already out there in the Uncharted world. The live action plane scene (UC 3) was cool, but something you'd see in a Marvel movie. The end action sequence was also pretty fun.

Reviewers are right though, the movie seems flat. Holland and the director did not capture the humor of Drake, and you never got the feeling of, "What else can go wrong for this guy?" -- which is so prevalent in the games. Wahlberg completely whiffed on Sully for most of the movie and mumbled through the part. Sully is brash, brazen, a little loud . Wahlberg's Sully was none of those. In addition, the buddy part of his relationship with Drake didn't come through until the very end. Antonio Banderas was kind of wasted in his role.

The additional scene post-credits was great and sets up a second film. I hope it begins a franchise. We need Elena Fisher.

Overall, I enjoyed it. There were a few Easter eggs for fan service. You aren't missing anything if you miss it in theaters, but I think it's worth a watch when it gets to Netflix if you like the source material.

Saw it last night as well and I'll start by saying Uncharted is my 1A favorite game series of all time. Like above, its not a great movie, but I think it is good popcorn flick. Pretty much on par with most video game movies. Its certainly not bad. Fun set pieces. Pirate treasures, ridiculous action sequences. I would love another.

Holland did okay as a 20 year old Nathan Drake. I thought him and Mark Wahlburg were able to get some of that Drake-Sully relationship going by the end of it. While it never quite set right like the games, my hope is that using two big names will give this movie some extra pull to get another one made. I will say I thought the girl playing Chloe was pretty close. She's very much that antihero, who at the end of the day will do what gets her to the end goal without remorse for betraying people.

It was missing Elena who tends to be the moral heart of the games, but it makes sense for her not to be in this because its an origin story. They did tease Roman from the 2nd game in the credits scene.

Lots of fun easter eggs. I wish they'd used the game music more. First time it played they did show Nolan North (Nathan Drake in the games) on the beach and him talking about falling out of a plane as well.

I agree with you on the musical score. I did really notice its use until the final act. It should have been better incorporated into the film.

I was expecting after the opening scene to have an opening credits like in UC4, and it never came. That was a little disappointing.

The tease of Roman at the end was great. The banter between Drake and Sully felt more authentic to the games. I hope we get a second film with that kind of relationship. And, as I said before Elena Fisher.

He is 25 in the film as is Holland in real life. He is a little on the small side and the voice is high, but he had a cockiness to him that fit well and differentiated from Peter Parker. Sophia Ali was great as Chloe. Marky was fine, not really Sully but I got over it and there were still great interaction. Definitely national treasure and dumb but that is what I wanted from this

If it's any indication, it has a B rating from audience score and 70+% audience recommendation agains 39% on RT.

Hope it gets some legs.

I think that is why I got over mark playing mark. They still had a great and playful banter between them that felt relatively true to the games.

i'm seeing it later today, but preparing for the worst.

i have literally been waiting for this movie since it was first announced as being developed. i literally bought a PS3 just so i could play Drake's Fortune and it's been my favorite video game series since then.

i've been thinking about casting this movie for so long, many actors have aged out of one part and into another (nathan fillion and bruce campbell as drake/sully would've been amazing in 2010). i remember being disappointed when i heard Wahlberg was initially cast to play Drake. if you think he's miscast as Sully, he'd have been even worse as Drake.

anyway, after a 10+ year wait, i'm still pretty excited to see it. i imagine i'll feel similarly if/when they release top gun: maverick
