Spike Lee has a docuseries on HBO Max which has some really good footage and storylines from 9-11 I was unaware of. On part 3.

I had to stop in Ep 1 with the jumpers. I cant handle that. Ugh. I had nightmares about that for years. That or I was on the pentagon plane.

Lots of reasons I don't want to watch - my dad had a friend on that flight, and a woman I worked with (who admittedly I didn't really know) was on it too. I had a cousin in the WTC when the first plane hit, he walked all the way to mid town and we didn't know if he was alive until that night. I never asked him directly but heard he saw some of the jumpers. And being in DC it was real, I saw the hole in the pentagon, on the day of the attack we had a government installation across from us so didn't know if we were in danger (of course we weren't in hindsight but in the heat of the moment who knows). In fact trajectory wise, the pentagon plane would have flown right over my office or close to it about 5 minutes or less before it hit, I was in Vienna VA at the time. And of course local news had lots of people impacted far worse than me on for days, weeks, even months.
So for me, not that I was even remotely close to the worst impacted by a long shot, it was still well beyond academic in a whole host of ways. I watched the first nat Geo doc 10 years ago or whenever that was, and that was enough for me,

These days, when I hear some people talk about the events of 9/11, it reminds me of the way I talk about World War II. Very analytical and detached, instead of with the feeling and emotion of having lived through it.

This isn't blue starred enough. I watch war documentaries all the time with fascination. My wife and I are 45 minutes into the first episode and have lost it multiple times. Living through it back prior to born is spot on here.

Man, this brings back a ton of feelings. I remember sitting in Ms. Green's junior English class, watching the second plane hit. I think at that point, the buzz around school was that it was just a small Cessna type plane that accidentally hit the other tower. I'm only one episode in, but I'm glad they seem to be focusing on the unreal acts of selflessness and heroism. The sounds of the bodies hitting are absolutely haunting.

That stuff has been on YouTube for years. In fact, nearly all of the footage shown in this show has been on YouTube for years. I'm not saying that to sound condescending....just saying that if you ever want to go down the 9/11 rabbit hole, it's all there for you to do.

I did just that for many years...I just absolutely devoured everything I could about that day. Then about 3 years ago I made it to the 9/11 memorial in NYC and spent pretty much the whole day there (including going to the top of One World Trade). I even took pictures of the names etched into the memorial of some of the folks I remembered from some of the documentaries I've seen (Orio Palmer being one of them. He was mentioned at the end of this series by one of the firefighters as they list the names of their lost. Look up his story). For whatever reason, I can't explain the psychology behind it, that "closed " it for me. Until this series I hadn't watched a single thing about 9/11 since that day.

Actually after I posted that, I do have a memory of seen it, specifically the "take 2," not sure why it did not click for me.

it's more profound to watch these things/clips with the context, in my opinion.

*NOT AN ATTEMPT TO DERAIL*

Speaking of how much footage is on youtube, it's kind of shocking how little footage there is of WTC 7 coming down.

But I suppose most cameras weren't really pointed towards it at that time.

I think the most heartbreaking thing is the fully staffed hospitals with doctors and nurses standing around ready to treat people that never came.

Only 18 rescued from the rubble.

This contains at least a dozen different views of WTC 7 collapse.

Good find on that first one. What's odd is a YouTube search only gives me 3 videos and only one of the actual collapse. But it won't return the one you linked.

I did a google search. But even there it was not one of the top hits it was way down the list.

Finished watching this series last night. As I was in high school when 9/11 happened, I understood what happened but didn't fully grasp all of the events of the day. I have off and on looked at info about that day and learned more since but I will say this series had info that i personally hadn't heard / seen before. As well it was very well done and very respectful.
