Season 1



I'm a little late to the game, but just finished season 2 of 'For All Mankind' on AppleTV+.
I didn't see a thread on this, so thought I would create one.
Space is good. Alternate history is good. This is good.


'For All Mankind' is an alternate look at history under the premise that the Russians made it to the moon first. This alters the path of the cold war, as well as technological development over the decade(s) as they race to colonize the moon.

This has finished with two seasons (season 2 dropped in early 2021), and season 3 is filming now.
This is from Ronald Moore who brought us to (up to the ending) the awesome Battlestar Galactica.

Season 1 was good. I think all will enjoy it.
Season 2 got a bit more 'soap-opera-ishy', but is still good.

There is a small issue I have with one of the latter episodes in season 2, but will forgo that for now unless there is interest in discussing. Not sure how many on here have seen this. Apparently the numbers are pretty good for it, but there hasn't been much talk here about this one.

Anyone hear anything about this new virus out of China? There are videos of people dropping dead in the streets and China government are welding people into their apartment buildings. Could become serious.


Just messing, have not heard of it but sounds interesting.

Seriously, I searched and didn't find it.

Anyway, its a good show. The Russians suck. Karen is hot. The loss at the end of season 2 really sucks. And curious where this is going. EOT. Dammit.

We finished this last night and man it is incredibly well done. One of my favorite sneaky series in a long time. I don't understand why it isn't getting more accolades.

Highly recommend watching this is you grew up in the 80s and like space travel fiction. Really intense and great acting.

I just started watching this and it's quickly shot to one of my all-time favorite shows. I've always been interested in the space program, but I discovered how much pride I have in being an American and us going to the moon when I had to turn the first episode off a while back because I couldn't handle the Russians beating us there, even fictionally.

I managed to power through, though, and I am sure glad I did. That closing shot on Season 2 is one of the coolest shots I've ever seen.

Mad Men + The Americans in space.

If you like those shows you will probably like this show.

End of Season 1 with the ant on the moon and Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears was a top tier season outtro.

Thanks for the recommendation. I thought the concept of what would happen if the Russians landed first was great, and the fall out over the first 2 seasons seemed quite plausible.

They over did it with placing women in every role imaginable though. There was one scene in mission control that had
JSC director : female
Flight director: female
Head of the astronaut office: female
NASA Liason to the president: female
Trajectory officer: female and illegal alien

Not a male in sight. It's like it's the Barbie version of Nasa.

But like I said, the story line in the first 2 seasons was really good.

(season 3 jumped the shark though)

Cowboys and Indians in space + Alternate history The Americans. Margo = Martha.

Also similar to the show Homeland.

The montage of world events at the beginning of every season is great.

Merging the timeline with Bush Sr. is great.

Not an all time great show but for sure a top-tier show,

Show jumps the shark when they send the autistic kid through the ventilation duct, but they had to go somewhere with the show.

Margo speaking Russian with the heaviest Carolina drawl of all time was great.

So? The entire premise of the show is an alternate history where Russia landed men and women on the Moon first. So the US responded by increasing their own Moon efforts including greater women and minority representation. There were multiple episodes about more women in the astronaut corps in Season 1. Why would that not translate to the same thing happening in Mission Control? Which is what happened in real life, but on a faster time scale in the show.

They making another season in 2025 that continues the show in the year 2012.

The over arching premise of the show is what would happen if the US, Russia, NK and others dumped money and resources into space instead of conventional war against each other for the past 40-years.
