I watched it last night, it was remarkable and a bit disturbing. I knew nothing going in and no idea how to describe it going out. However, I highly encourage you watch it if you have an open mind and want to see something truly unique and madly brilliant.
Watched it this weekend and meant to post in the standup thread about it. Worth watching if you're a fan of Bo, but it's different and weird. Definitely the least "comedic" of his stuff and not necessarily something I'd rewatch like What or Make Happy, but some of his best song work is in this, and the lightning/FX is masterful.

If you want to see him act, he was pretty good as a doctor in Promising Young Woman. He was also the spoiled country singer in an episode of Parks and Rec

Big fan of Bo. He's 3 years younger than me, and really feels like the first "story-teller" of our generation. (for lack of a better term). I personally think "Can't Handle This" is a masterpiece.
He got famous as a teenager and has been in the spotlight basically all his life. It's fascinating to hear his perspective to me.

So i would highly NOT recommend Bo Burnham's new special if you're not 100% rock solid in your mental state.
Let me be clear, this special was genuinely powerful...but in a way that I'm not sure is....'good' for consumption by some (which i guess is the point, but it's pretty ****ing heavy).
Bo Burnham is known as a 'comedian' but it's important for people to know that there's not much comedy in this sobering 90 minute special. It legit bummed me out and I was not ready for that.
For anyone that knows Bo (heh, that's a Bo joke), all of his specials the past ~10ish years have always been cynical and tinged with some self loathing....but this one is different. His usual sardonic humor descended beyond anything I've seen from him.
This wasn't just a "I'm a hypocrite and here's the catch 22 of being a rich performer". This was: "Technology is eroding reality. The world is ending. Humans exploiting humans is our favorite past time. Death seems nice."
And if you're not mentally prepared for...honestly, those TRUTHS, then I would skip this for now.

He also had his own show that he wrote and starred in. Can't remember the name, he worked in a grocery store. Like everything he does, it was weird and awesome.

Pretty sure I just watched brilliance but don't have it in me to watch again to verify.
I watched the first 30 mins or so, and I'm laughing my ass off. I have to go to sleep, but will definitely finish it, tomorrow.

Just finished it. Thought it was fantastic. The comedy was obviously darker (or perhaps less prevalent) and the music was perfect. He walks the line perfectly of "do I take this seriously?" and "man that's deep humor."
And go watch his movie 8th grade.

The special has been a bit slow. It took me about four sittings to get through it all. But it was quite clever and overall well done.

This was a good special. Highly entertaining.. BUT.. the ultra high critical acclaim, and a few reviews above about not watching it in certain mental states are a yuuuuuuuge stretch.
It was relevant, it was good. He's insanely talented and smart. But it won't stick with me for weeks or even days.

Just finished it. I'm not sure if it was a comedy, or a memoir, or introspection, or global commentary, or a collection of elaborate selfies, or a cry for help. But whatever it was, I'm pretty sure it was genius.
What's a good show to start off with? My wife and I tried to watch what. the other night and did not really enjoy the first 30 mins or so (turned it off and watch something else). Perhaps it's just that his style of humor did not resonate with us and that's ok if so. However, it's seems like a lot of you like him so I willing to give him another chance if there's a better show, special etc. to watch. Thanks!
He has 4 specials: Words, Words, Words, what., Make Happy, and Inside. I think it's best to start at the beginning, but Make Happy may be his best mix of music, humor, and introspect

It has definitely stuck with me the day following watching it. More than the content of the special (which is very good & dark) I think it's the quality of the production and creativity in the way he shot and edited it. He did EVERYTHING himself. The music, his use of lighting, the editing. It was all of such high quality for having been made with an off-the-shelf camera, lights, and MacBook. It's just another example of the type of art that can be produced with everyday technology in the hands of someone creative and a lot of hard work.
Completely agree. Even if you don't get his *admittingly* weird sense of humor...what he has created with this and his other Netflix specials is something to admire. I havent seen Inside yet, but having seen Make Happy, it's my opinion that, after having watched Bo Burnham since his youtube days, he doesn't really want to be seen as a comedian anymore. He's an undeniably creative person with a wisdom and intelligence beyond his years, who used (past tense) his silly sense of humor to gain fame and attention, but I dont think he wants people to laugh anymore.cr0wbar said:

Agreed, I thought it was really well done, funny, and thought provoking. But if this special makes you question your mental well-being, I think you have much more serious problems and should get help. It was dark comedy, but nothing too extreme in my opinion.
It almost came across more as a sample reel for any future directing gigs he might try to get.
Between this and his movie the other year, I'm definitely more interested in seeing him direct a new movie than see another comedy special from him now.
