Heard Liucci mention on TexAgs yesterday that he's currently watching this. I watched 1 & 1/2 episodes last night. Seems pretty good so far. There's 5 seasons out so plenty to binge watch. Showtime thru Amazon Prime is only $10.99/month. Not bad for 5 seasons if you need a show to binge watch.

Anyone else watching/watched it? Feedback?

Good show but depends too heavily on the deus ex machina blackmail type storylines. Similar show to Suits in that regard.

I couldnt get past the terrible writing of the first season. Where Veep elevated profanity to an art form. And shows like "youre the worst" and seinfeld effectively used despicable characters and situations to create engaging stories. This show used profanity like a 5 year old that just learned he could get a rise out of his parents by randomly cussing or saying things for shock

That whole A.T.M. scene was just so terrible. It wasn't engaging or shocking it was just so ham fisted and terrible.

Fairly accurate description of the difference btwn HBO shows and Showtime originals. I think their stuff is getting better, though. They used to only be about 50% as good as an equivalent HBO show but now they are up to probably 85% as good as an HBO show. They've moved in ~5 years from Arli$$ phase to Entourage phase.

Ha! I've got a buddy that writes for Showtime. Did a few seasons of Ray Donovan and more recently has done City on a Hill. He's definitely wrote some of those lines. He wrote this which had some gay groups up in arms: https://tv.avclub.com/ray-donovan-a-mouth-is-a-mouth-1798177298

I've enjoyed Billions and find it's gotten better from Season 1. But, it's not great in terms of quality, rather it's dumb entertainment.

Fun show with lots of eye candy, cars, women, clothes, locales. The two lead actors play their roles in bombastic fashion, but its entertaining. Last season was cut short in the middle due to Covid.

Billions is not good and Succession is just ridiculous. Can't stick with either.

I was actually pretty ok with City on a Hill s1 for a SHOWTIME production.

Billions is great once one gets over the cheap decadence. aco4 take is spot-on and Bunk sounds like a curmudgeon.

Here Bunk...

I gave up on Succession. It appears to be just a comedy with little drama/suspense. If that's what you are looking for, Succession may be for you. Just not me.

Feel free to disagree, and please don't make any decision on what you want to watch and enjoy solely off the opinions of that ******* Bunk.

Glad you took my post in stride. Just poking fun at ya.

I did feel like I needed to bathe after some of the Billions episodes and Succession is fun to watch who can out dip**** each other.

Started watching this show on Amazon Prime recently and have finished two seasons and am strongly considering bailing.

I liked it a lot at first but something happened that I can't put my finger on and when but suddenly it just started becoming so cheesy to me. I'm halfway through so feel like I should stick it out but it has become seemingly repetitive and just so over the top I can't decide.

Searched for this thread to see if others had felt the same way.

I like it quite a bit overall. I'm early into season 5.

Some eye roll moments, but the overall plot is entertaining for me.

Halfway through season 4. Pretty good show. Definitely entertaining. I'm in. But the plot dynamics with the two main characters seems odd to me and I'm not sure how I feel about it. But will keep watching.

Sad to see how the season ended. Given the circumstances they should have just wrapped the show up.

It's turned into an extended Roadrunner cartoon, with Paul Giamatti playing Wile E. Coyote. Gets the evil roadrunner billionaire in his grasp, only to see him escape at the end. Every time.

Sad Axe is not coming back next season. Probably not even going to watch, he made that show.

Yeah next season with no Axe won't be very good.

I haven't watched since season 4. The way it sounds now no thanks, the writing was a bit much at times but there were some great moments, the ice juice ipo was brilliant

Damian's spouse of 14 years died in April. They had a son and daughter. Would seem pretty likely he needs some down time.

Sounds like 5 years and done has always been his plan, although I imagine the personal stuff removed any chance of him changing his mind.

But after 60 episodes of elaborate, at times inscrutable schemes, and of Chuck and Axe squaring off in various configurations, Lewis was ready to move on.

"It's difficult to keep mining, creatively," he said. "We know who he is."

And after six years of spending months at a time in New York filming "Billions," he plans to stick close to home and to his two teenage children after "we had a sadness in our family," he said, referring to McCrory's death, at 52, from cancer.

It's a subject he's reluctant to talk about, his normal expansiveness giving way to terse responses. He wants to remain in London for the foreseeable future for "obvious reasons," he said. "It is self-evident."

Lewis said McCrory's death did not explain his departure from "Billions." He initially signed on for five seasons and "always just assumed that would be enough," he said. Koppelman said the show, which premiered in 2016, had been building toward Axe's departure for several years.
Quote:

Over five seasons on the pulpy markets-and-machers drama, Axe embodied the culture's often contradictory feelings about the superrich. A self-made, self-described capitalist monster, he shamelessly destroyed anything careers, lives, entire towns that got between him and his next billion. But he did so with enviable audacity and panache, with an equally alluring penthouse-and-private-jet lifestyle.

"When I'm walking down the street in New York, it's: 'Axe, you the man!'" Lewis said. "He's a really despicable human being, but no one seems to care."

I kept hoping for a redemptive arc for Axe where we learned something about his family that shaped him into the "take no prisoners" character that we saw ... thought it might be during his and Prince's encounter on the neighborhood renewal project. Nope.

Thought it might be if/when he and Wendy finally wound up together. Apparently not to be.

ChipFTAC01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, really pretty disappointing arc for axe. Basically no resolution in his character. NEither a commupance or a victory over Chuck. Just an ending.

What a dumb ass comment. Tony Soprano and Walter White are two of the best characters in tv history. They're also despicable humans. I've got this mini season on my dvr. Probably won't finish watching.
