Ya'll are mostly talking about cameos......

un-credited "roles" to me are integral characters in the plot but someone they kept hidden from the previews, credits, articles, etc. Usually this was done to have some dramatic effect in the film.

That's why I listed Kevin Spacey in Se7en. He was the main protagonist and integral to the film obviously. but they kept his name from the credits and previews so as not to spoil it. Even going so far as to disguise (by poor visibility, etc.) his earliest appearances in the movie. Because if you knew Kevin Spacey was in the movie and had not seen him 60% of the way through it then you know who the perp is already. It was done to great effect. That and it really added to the effect of the nameless, unknowable serial killer which is how those cops felt right up until he turned himself in for the final twist.

Another was Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder - his appearance was a great surprise and shocking with the fat suit, swearing and grotesque character. Well done. It really went so against the Cruise type that it was genius.

Matt Damon in Interstellar is another example - again you had no idea who this astronaut on a distant planet was going to be and then he turns out to be a bad guy in effect, nearly killing them all.

Cameos are cool - but they aren't the same thing as uncredited ROLES, which serve a purpose and are not just easter eggs really.

imho

but the all-time #1 is Johnny Depp & Peter Deluise in 21 Jump Street. I watched it and recognized Deluise in a background role but had no idea it was Depp until the reveal.

So good. Surprisingly good movie.

Meh, I know the difference between a cameo and an uncredited role, I'm just to lazy to look up which actors are uncredited.

Proof for Tom Cruise's addition to this film was overwhelming, including direct quotes from the screenwriter, two separate interviews by co-star Kiefer Sutherland, an active report by "People" magazine on July 18th, 1988 during the film's production, direct verbal confirmation in the DVD audio commentary by no less than 3 additional cast members of the film, as well as a multitude of other references. at 1:39:14, Tom Cruise can be seen being shot by Casey Siemazko's
character (Charlie Bowdre) as he exits Terry O'Quinn' character (Alex
McSween's) house. This is an uncredited role, and has been documented extensively over the years, including in the trivia section for this film, as well as in the audio commentary by Lou Diamond Phillips, Dermot Mulroney and Casey Siemaszko. Please note the following short list of sources and cast/crew interviews that validate this addition."

It was pretty massively hyped though. The show had a string of celeb guest voices but mj at that time was a whole different level.

Interesting. I just pulled that scene up on YouTube and it's the guy falling backwards at the 36-37 second mark. I guess that could be Cruise but if so he's well made up. It seems random that an actor of that caliber (Young Guns came out at roughly the same time as Rain Man and Cocktail, soon after The Color of Money and right before Born on the Fourth of July) would dress up that heavily for a scene where he's essentially falling backwards for half a second. But who knows?

Wasn't really surprising though. His appearance was very heavily advertised and talked about well before the airing. Recall everyone being surprised when he wasn't actually visually portrayed as himself.
