Why...why...why didn't I look at the audience score before I watched this turd.

Top ranked movies on Hulu...92% fresh....my ass....pointless and dull, stars the curly headed blonde assistant from Ozark.

Never trust RT. They've never helped but have always done me wrong.

6.1 on IMDb and if you're a dude over 45 it's 5.7.

That is mediocrity.

I thought The Assistant was damn good. One of the best movies of the year, IMO. Sure, it's somewhat dry and methodical, and definitely not for everyone - I don't begrudge anyone for not liking it - but it's astonishingly spot-on and relatable if you've ever worked in that kind of environment or for that kind of person (as I have). It found it to be extremely well done and effective in that regard.

Seems like a pretty small subset of people.

If I wanted a realistic boring office experience, I can go to work.

But I get where you are coming from.

Is that supposed to be a critique? Thousands of movies exist that are only truly relatable to a few. Effectively invoking empathy from those who haven't experienced such circumstances are how those movies succeed. This movie clearly didn't do a good enough job at that for GoAgs92, which is fine. I totally get it. But it *did* work for many others, as it's consistently been one of the best-reviewed movies of the year. To each his own. I'm merely explaining why it worked for me.

Just an observation. It seems to be doing poorly with common people, but well with those tangentially related to the industry. Seems like a very small group to connect with. Not everything is a shot at you.

I used to adhere to Rotten Tomatoes' scores religiously, but that all changed with Bright.

I didn't take it as a shot. I meant a "critique" on the movie, not on me. You literally replied directly to my post, though, so I replied back.

92 % critics

25% audience

I always go with the audience, not those self-impressed Hollywood or media d-bags. So out of touch.

"Jane, a recent college graduate and aspiring film producer, just landed her dream job as a junior assistant to a powerful entertainment mogul. Her day is much like any other assistant -- making coffee, ordering lunch, arranging travel accommodations and taking phone messages. But as Jane follows her daily routine, she grows increasingly aware of the abuse that insidiously colors every aspect of her workday, an accumulation of degradations against which she decides to take a stand."

Why would you decide to watch this movie?

disclaimer, I haven't seen it, just wondering what was appealing about it to the OP

I did not read the synopsis since I prefer to know next to nothing about a movie, no trailer, nothing before watching.

All I knew was it was a top rated movie on Hulu per rotten tomatoes per the critics...audience was more right for sure....live and learn.

Ah, yea its a fine line between wanting a generic amount of information and having things spoiled.
I think I remember the Rotten Tomatoes critic rating being pretty reliable in the distant past, but I guess they just allowed too many unreliable critics to join maybe.

Kinda seems like if you prefer seeing movies "blind" that ending up with the occasional film you hate is a cost of doing business.

Interesting as a sort of "day in the life of", with a lot left to subtext and inference. She did a pretty good job in her role, considering a lot of it was unspoken.

I think I would recommend cutting out about 15 minutes of her just doing chores, There would have stil been more than enough of it to portray how mundane a lot of her job is.

I actually thought the movie really picked up starting with her HR scene and everything that followed afterwards. The scene with the two other guy assistants (I assume thats what they were) was a nice touch. At first I thought they would freeze her out, but I took it to be as them being understanding of her predicament overall. A sort of olive branch when they helped her write the email you know she didn't want to.

I also don't blame anyone for hating the epxerience of watching it, haha. The first half hour ish was a bit rough, probably much better in theater though.

Yeah, you have to take the audience rating into account as well. If you can find a movie with 70+ for both the critic and audience rating...there's a pretty high probability it'll be at least a good movie.

RT has always been pretty solid for me so long as I stick to the rule that if there is anything related to political or sjw type of subject matter in the film, I cannot trust the score at all.

For so many reasons too. Some people will rate something higher or lower for that reason, regardless of the quality of the movie. Some will do the same out of fear of being 'canceled' Then there is the percentage that always have bad opinions, but are still somehow considered film critics.
