Kokomo - Beach Boys

And that poppy Grateful Dead song from the early 90's

Also all that keyboard driven pop drivel that ZZ Top started producing in the 90's

'Touch of Grey' is the Dead song you're probably thinking of, but I can't see why anyone would "hate" it.

Mine is...

Starship - 'We Built This City'

Touch of Grey is not the Dead's finest...but not hate worthy at all

Last Kiss by Pearl Jam

It was a novel little cover that they toyed around with on the '98 tour after Ed found an old 45 of the song at a Seattle swap meet. The band recorded it at a soundcheck for a show and then released to the Fan Club on their Christmas Single. Then some assclown DJs in LA and Boston started playing it and lo and behold it becomes a huge, overplayed hit.

Hmmm,
well David Bowie and Mick Jagger both did some pretty horrible things in the 80's (both as a duo and solo).

I imagine with Touch of Grey, among other similar songs that got popular for bands, that song doesn't represent to fans what made the band so kickass, and what those fans love about said band. When that sucky song gets popular, people start to think that that's what the band is about, instead of ____________.

When was Chumba Wumba a decent band (or even a band)?

they're actually a well known anarchist band in britain. their success with tubthumpin' actually provided them with the money to do even more anarchistic things. I don't think their plan was to be popular, sort of happened, and then afterwards, they went back to doing what they were doing: being a politically driven band with a small fanbase.

The reason I listed the Grateful Dead song was exactly what Bobcat said so well in his post.

I get knocked down is probably one of the worst songs ever made. The fact that the Mad Hatters bar in CS actually played that song in the past year is the main reason why I will never EVER go back to that place.

Re: Last Kiss

Didn't all the money from the single go to charity? I think PJ makes some pretty crappy music, but for arena rockers, at least their heart is in the right place.

I'd have to day Radio Song and most of Monster by REM are glitches in the catalog.

Is it acceptable among the anarchist community to have a plan?

In regards to Tusk not being popular, maybe not on the radio but I remember the video for that song in pretty heavy rotation on MTV(back when they played videos on MTV), if I remember correctly it was filmed in the LA Colliseum with the USC Trojan band.

Tusk was a great song...very popular also...it went to #8 on the Billboard Charts. I like it better live with the USC marching band. That song and album were a very brave departure from Rumours.
