When the highlight of the film is a Smashmouth cover of a Monkees song, that should be an indicator.

And I honestly don't hate Shrek, I just find it really dated and you can tell the technology is dated. The Incredibles still holds up and looks pretty fantastic.

I'd argue some of y'all don't remember how great The Incredibles was

That's fair. Both are great.

Whenever someone uses the phrase "pitch perfect" to describe a movie, I immediately ignore their opinion.

What if they're describing the movie Pitch Perfect?

I loved both, but Shrek was special. Maybe there had been others, but the idea of these characters from all different fairy-tale stories living together in the same universe and interacting like daily life was incredibly novel. It's clever, unique, and has a good message about the importance of friendship, not pushing people away, and being comfortable in your own skin.

The Incredibles is similarly unique, talking about a super hero family, hiding, etc. It's a great movie and one of my favorites. But I just couldn't give it the nod over Shrek. Tough vote, though.

Muck, you should do a "best bad movies" bracket featuring only movies that are sub 50% on rotten tomatoes by critic rating or something. Here's a seed article: https://www.theringer.com/2017/6/19/16039450/the-50-best-good-bad-movies-a9add81b5b7f

I think this is my last hurrah for a while on movies; I've got some other brackets I'm interested in doing. Plus family life kept me from seeing a huge number of films in 2010-2019 and to be honest I'm pretty burnt out from the whiners.

Need to do more brackets like the Big Trouble in Little China one. No arguments there or whining, just a bunch of fans enjoying discussing the best movie of all time.

Understand. But please don't mistake whining for a hill I'm prepared to die on

40 votes in; 3 are blowouts, 3 are not

As a reminder, starting around midnight tonight and lasting to Monday morning will be 2 three-movie round-robins to decide the final four. If they all tie with 50% of the vote, we go to penalty kicks.

One will be the regional winners of Drama, Family, Super hero, the other will be Comedy, SciFi/Fantasy, and Action Adventure.

The top 2 in each go on to the final four and are re-seeded based on total votes. Final Four Monday, and Final 2 on Tuesday.

Tough to pick, but I think the drug-out ending(s) of Return hurts it.

Bourne ve CR was hard, they're both really good. But Bourne vs Oceans was an easy one for me - Bourne all day.

ROTK has one of the most epic battle scenes (and speeches of all time). And a damn near perfect ending (which granted, may have gone on too long, but it was still pitch perfect).

On the other hand, FOTR feels perfectly paced and is a much leaner movie. The introduction to Middle Earth, and The Shire, is just so well done. And the entire Mines of Moria sequence is amazing. I didn't see the movie until it was out on DVD, and even on a small TV, I was blown away.

And Howard Shore's music, as amazing as it is in ROTK, is even better in FOTR. Especially "The Breaking of the Fellowship" track at the end of the movie.

It's hard to top. Even Gladiator, which is one of my favorite movies of all time, is still second to this movie. It's perfection.

Both movies are amazing. It is one of the rare occasions where the movie is better than the book. Peter Jackson deserves a Nobel prize for his work!

I vote for FOTR because ROTK leaves out 2 scenes from the theatrical release that are huge pivotal points in the book.

1) The Lord of the Nazgul confronts Gandalf and it appears Gandalf cannot stop him from entering Minas Tirith - this happens just before the Rohirrim show up.

2) Aragorn takes the Palantir and shows himself to Sauron, which is an even more important reason that Sam & Frodo are able to sneak all the way to Mt Doom with no notice; Aragorn shows Suaron that Isiuldur's heir lives and is coming right at him.

3) Yeah, too many endings for ROTK, especially when they come in one by one to Frodo's recovery room. I expected Saruman, Sauron, Gollumn, and the RIng Wraiths to come in as well and jump up and down on the bed.

All y'all complaining about the multiple endings in ROTK and they didn't even have the Scouring of the Shire in the movie. Peter Jackson did y'all a huge solid on leaving that one out.

I could have done with less bed jumping and long staring, and more Merry & Pip being badasses.

Now that's a challenge.

Have to go with Maximus because it's all him and Joaquin Phoenix, no CGI. I don't know if I've ever seen better controlled rage than Russell Crowe in that moment.

And I actually like Theoden better in TTT -

Well, the cream is rising to the top. 5 of the 6 matchups now have a definitive leader with a margin above 10 votes. Meanwhile over in SciFi/Fantasy, we are learning that there be only one Lord of the RIngs ... only one. and HE DOES NOT SHARE POWER.

Anyone object to me doing hottest babes from SciFi next? Or should we do best Marvel moments?

Only because you've already done the Star Wars hotties, I'd vote Marvel.
