Open Range is the better Costner Western vs Wyatt Earp

Tombstone is the most enjoyable of all 3.
Yes, Open Range is a better western. I think I'd classify Wyatt Earp as a biopic in much the same way that I'd classify the movie Patton to be a biopic rather than a war movie.

I suppose Wyatt Earp and Tombstone really aren't in the same boat, as the former is a longer-running and more in-depth look at the life Earp lived, while the latter is a more audience-friendly action type western movie. They cover a lot of the same ground, but Tombstone is a tighter scripted telling of the story without the expansive look at his entire life.

That said, I still prefer the biopic over the audience-friendly movie.

88 votes in, one matchup tied AGAIN. I have not seen it more than 2 votes one way or the other all day long.

I just ran across this on Twitter and had to share it somewhere and this is probably the best place for it to be truly appreciated.

Silence of the Lambs beating Pulp Fiction is very surprising.

As far as I can tell, they were never more than 2 votes apart throughout the day. Both are masterpieces. it's like if you put Braveheart up against GoldenEye. You just can't pick.

That's a brutal final 8. Only one of them was an easy choice for me.

It also doesn't surprise me that Total Recall was the biggest loser this time around. The fact that it was in the sweet sixteen tells more about who it was matched up against than anything else.

Very much so. It's a great movie but I didn't realize how much people liked this movie on this board. For example, you rarely see references or quotes from that movie on here, or anywhere really.

Pulp Fiction is at #8 on IMDb, Lambs is at #23. I'm surprised Lambs is that high, but I'm even more surprised it could beat PF.

Didn't Pulp Fiction just get beaten by a handful of votes? Are you suggesting JP is winning in a landslide?

Very tough matchups! Crazy tough!

Not happy with how the comedy bracket ended though. I know it might be heresy, but I'm not a big fan of either of the finalists.

And I love Silence of the Lambs. Afraid this is the end of the road for it though! (And I love Shawshank, but Silence is a masterpiece!) Tombstone is in my all time top 5. I know it isn't the greatest movie, but it is just a very fun Western. That and Open Range are great! True Lies is so good as well!!!

Yeah, I picked it up for 5 bucks on iTunes recently and...it was better as I remembered it.

That being said, there are a TON of $4.99 movies on iTunes right now including a good chunk of this bracket (action movies in particular).

I couldn't. I absolutely love The Matrix and it was groundbreaking, but Jurassic Park is a masterpiece (and also groundbreaking).

But this would be my championship matchup given the choice.

64.9%

Those all seem fairly close to be calling a winner this early. A lot could change.

In 90% of the matchups I've run through all these tournaments, the first 20 votes are an accurate represntation of the winner. But of course we don't know who's winning each matchup, so it stays engaging and fun, at least that's what I keep telling my counselor when he asks why I'm wasting so much time on this instead of working.

i'll honestly be shocked if Shawshank doesn't walk away with this whole thing given how many people claim it as their favorite movie.

Really? On texags? Or at all?

Don't get me wrong I could see people going either way but VERY surprised it won?

Silence of the Lambs is one of only 3 films to win Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress and Screenplay. And it plays constantly on cable - I personally watch it over and over and all the way through at least once or twice a year. I know many people saw it later and not in the theater (like Shawshank in that way) but I also don't know anyone that dislikes it.

Pulp Fiction is of course an Indy/Cult classic and I love it too. But I do know many people that hate it - my wife included.

I think someone is more likely to dislike PF than dislike SOTL. So you get those that love SOTL and those that hate PF. but for PF you only get those that love PF the most.

imho

Hmmm... I don't know with it only beating SPR 54-46 and SPR has its detractors.

Also just remember what a nerdfest this place is (myself included). The movies with the highest percentages routinely have not been the dramas. Partly because the drama bracket is a slugfest.

We'll see. Could be right but I would not be shocked at the action or sci-fi winner taking it all here. Cuz texags.

Who goes against who in the final 4?

In other words, does Comedy go against Drama?

I would put Fantasy up against Comedy, since Comedy will NOT win the Finals and either of JP or Matrix would be worthy of a finals appearance.

Therefore, the drama/action matchup will be brutal!
Brian Earl Spilner

JP vs Matrix could've easily been a semifinals match.
