Sadly at the beginning of June we had a trip with a group of 30 students to NYC planned. We were supposed to see 3 shows. Mean Girls, Beetlejuice and Mrs Doubtfire. Obviously it got cancelled.

We were all really excited for Mean Girls. I've heard great things about Hadestown as well and like what I've heard music wise from it so far

I saw it in NY in 2017, just read the Chernow bio and watched the recorded version. I'm a big US history fan, so when I saw it in 2017 I had some context, but man, after reading the book it's like watching a whole different production. So many small, kind-of 'throwaway' lines were straight out of original letters & being alive to much more of what else was going on at the time and with the main characters was a game changer.

When I saw it in person, my favorite numbers were the the first of King George, 10 duel commandments, & Quiet Uptown. All still great, and maybe it's cause I'm at a different time in life, but this time around Who Tells Your Story really got me

wasnt very impressed with lin manuel's voice. I wish Jordan fisher was the original for john laurens and Phillip hamilton, Jordan's voice is absolutely incredible

Glad it was the original cast, that was really good seeing the whole thing. Previously only heard a few of the songs. Only negative, when "It's Quiet Uptown" started my brain got sidetracked by the notes used and why they sounded so familiar. I stopped paying attention to what was going on in the musical until it finally clicked:

Since the first time I heard the soundtrack, You'll Be Back is my favorite

Still is

But I loved Room Where it Happened. Top notch singing and choreography and Cabinet Battle 2

And Jonathan Groff

Oh my he is sooooooo great

Yeah Lin has never been the best singer ... in fact I'd say he's likely the weakest vocally in the whole cast. But he's a genius writer

Oh yeah the ten duel commandments is also great.

I thought he sucked in Fatwa, The Musical.

Kidding.

We watched Hamilton last night as a family and I thought Leslie Odom Jr's voice was very hard to understand at times.

I think Lin Manuel Miranda's voice is good. It's not elite, like the rest of the cast, but it's good enough.

The thing that struck me while watching it is that his looks don't really match up with the role. He just doesn't look like the ladies man that Hamilton was said to be.

Watched it last night begrudgingly with my wife.

It was pretty incredible and I get why people are so in love with it. Great story, great music, great acting, great stage.

Okay I have got into a heated discussion with some of my former theatre students over the end of this

Several of them think the reason Eliza gasps and grabs her chest because she finally passes and is reunited with Alexander again. I am like, look at her face. She breaks the 4th wall and sees that their story is told.

What do you think?

According to Lin Manuel, there's no correct answer and each actress may be interpreting it differently.

I think I am right though

If you liked it on video ... it's 10x better in person.

Also I think Eliza at the end is just her having a moment of the decades of emotion pent up being released at once.

I'm really impressed. Wife and I had tix for Hamilton live in NY back in April and obviously our trip was canceled so I'm bummed.

I've never been a broadway guy but I'll say I've liked all the ones I've seen. Evan Hansen, Book of Mormon and now Hamilton (on video). But Hamilton has been the most unique and I've enjoyed it the most.

Do all the songs have that lousy rapping in them, I have only heard a couple songs and the guys terrible rap ruined them.

I would say that I am a broadway guy. I have seen nearly 100 different shows. Hamilton is definitely a top 5 in my book. In comparison to the show that I saw in New Orleans, the original cast had better Lafayette/Jefferson, George Washington, and Eliza. The traveling show had better Ham (Manuel is great but his vocals are just ok), Burr, Angelica.

The recording of the original cast is well done. Highly enjoyed it. Even though my season seats are only 14 rows back, seeing the facial expressions up close, is really nice and brings much more to it.

Don't say this very often on here, but that's a terrible opinion. Run along and listen to your Lil' Whatever songs

The lyrics are fine, it's the delivery I don't like.

I also don't like superfluous rapping in country songs, but some people love it

I listened to the soundtrack so many times. The songs are so well crafted and the lyrics are just dope. I'm so glad I finally got to watch it. The show brings so much more depth to the soundtrack.

Most notably, Burr's disdain from his first verse as narrator is way more apparent. The choreography for Satisfied is amazing and brings so much more to the lyrics And Eliza's final song is so much more potent on screen.

Diggs absolutely steals the show in my opinion, but there's not a weak link on this cast. Admittedly, Lin Manuel is overshadowed, but I still love him. He put together a masterpiece of a show. And Groff is so freaking fun.

I'm really impressed. And I shall see it in person at some point.

Give some examples of rap you do like, otherwise you are being disengenous. Choosing to watch a musical that has rapping, when you don't like, is insane.

That is a good point, seeing the up-close facial expressions really added to it. The second time I saw Beatles Love I was in a seat near the stage and one of the stage entrances. Seeing the faces added so much to the performance compared to the first time I saw it from the upper balcony. Are there any similar video performance for Broadway musicals such as Wicked?

My 62 year old father in law, who hates all rap music, liked it.
