I stumbled across this browsing youtube. One of my all time favorite movies.

Excellent behind the scenes look. Enjoy!

Yes, Madeleine Stowe was/is smoking hot.

I have a Madeline Stowe / Brian Benben /Walmart/ Kerrville true story from maybe around 1996 or so

And ditto, I love Last of The Mohicans.

I grew up with Wes Studi's son Daniel. He lived in Oklahoma with his mom. Also the town I grew up in had a huge Native population. A couple of different tribes. A bunch of people were hired as extras in this movie. I remember them coming back with badass mohawks after filming was done. They looked pretty dang intimidating.

I love everything about that movie. Great behind the scenes there I watched it all.

Literally Top 10 for me all-time.

The story, the raw survival elements, the brutality, the frenetic chase, the scenery, the setting of the war, and a huge part is the music. And of course Madeleine Stowe.

I'm usually far from a romantic - but it works in that film because of the characters/actors - but maybe moreso just because of the backdrop. You can just feel the raw tension and you can see the connection and the emotion on every scene. Madeleine is brilliant in her subtle emotions there. Daniel Day Lewis is just about as straightforward as he could play it but the character is driven by survival. Of himself, of her and their relationship, of his Mohican adopted family, etc. It's powerful.

My favorite character though has to be Magua. As that behind the scenes points out he is the "villain" but really his dedication and his vision and his understanding is just about the most complete and honest in the film. For what has been done to him and his family and his people he sees clearly what he must become which doesn't align with the Huron way. And he has such amazing expressions throughout. His lack of comprehension of the ways of the white man at times is nearly painful on his face. But really he understands them he just hates them. When he slices the throat of Uncas the look of disgust on his own face is incredible.

That's one of those movies that if I see it on I'll just stop down and watch it. Especially if it is anywhere from the battle at the fort and after. The last 45 minutes of that movie is just driving and the music is pacing it beautifully.

Completely awesome movie. Script / dialogue was the only weakness, but its still a top movie for me and i come back around to it every year or two.

Music, scenery, battle scenes, stowe - story....all incredible.

Great movie, and one of my favorite soundtracks to have on while I'm working. If I really need to focus and get motivated to finish a project, this is my go-to.

Sounds like it's time for a rewatch! This one, and Gladiator...

Ed Blatchford in his prime. Hard to argue which performance was better, this one or his own twist on Rod Belding. I'm just glad we get to experience both.

Thanks for sharing. One of, if not my all time favorite movie. And perhaps the best ending scene of a movie ever.

I live in NC, and have been to all the film sites and especially the waterfalls they used. They used to have the fort to visit but not for awhile. One of the first things I did when we moved here.

Every summer they used to show the movie outside in the state park (Chimney Rock) with the last scene's waterfall (Hickory Nut Falls) in the background. Missed it the last year they did it a few years ago.

the scenery in the movie is beautiful - western NC is one of the prettiest places in the country. We fell in love with it a few years ago and bought a place. Now just waiting for the to open the county back up so we can send some time there - the trout are calling me.
What do you boys want for breakfast BBQ ?.....OK Chili.

Love that movie. The soundtrack was my primary study music during college. Still enjoy listening to tracks "The Kiss, Promontory and Top of the world". They are still in my playlist today. Might watch it this weekend.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just like your opinion man!

You have to make sure to get the original. When it first came out on DVD, the "directors cut" was the only option and it was terrible (relatively speaking) and always pissed me off that it wasn't as good as my VHS "original".

If you are a fan of the movie and visit upstate New York, I highly recommend a visit to the area where the story is set, Lake George. The town of Lake George is the location of Fort William Henry. The area is stunning, the lake is amazing with up to 2000 foot high peaks surrounding it.

My mom used to watch it all the time when I was a kid. I think I complained every single time, and I'm sure it annoyed her. It wasn't until I was in my early 20's that I watched it with my roommate and realized how amazing it is. I probably should tell her how right she was all those times she told me it was good and I should pay attention.

One of my favorites. Will have to rewatch this weekend. The most moving scenes for me are when the British officer gives himself in trade to be burned and the final fight where Magua gets taken apart piece by piece.

The Last of the Mohicans is by far the best of the five books in Fenimore Cooper's Leatherstocking series, but this is a rare case of the movie being much better than the book.

Did my annual rewatch of this a few weeks ago. It's an incredible film and never gets old.

I recall reading some years ago that Stowe left acting and moved to the country to live on a ranch. That made her all the more hotter.

You missed the point. I know what she looks like. The fact that she lives on a ranch in Texas elevates her status.
Now, with all due respect, go.......never mind.

Nice, I knew the print edition wouldn't let us down. Texas Monthly was a great magazine up until 10 or 15 yrs ago.

Love the final 15 minute music only scene of this movie. If you're ever in NYC and get the chance to drive up to West Point, that part of the world is just as beautiful as the movie depicted.

I love this movie. The soundtrack was the second CD I ever bought.

That being said "Stay alive. I will find you." is one of the worst acted scenes I've ever seen in a movie. I cringe every time but go back to loving the movie immediately.

That line or some minor derivative of it has been used in a thousand other movies as well. It's almost become Wilhelm Scream 2.0 for me.

For some reason when I hear it, it always brings me back to this movie though.

My mind was blown a while back when I learned the actress that played Alice Munro went on to play Queen Calanthe in the Witcher series.

Am I wrong to recall that in the actual novel that Cora, not Alice actually had the relationship with Uncas and therefore Alice was shacking up with Hawkeye?

I seem to remember being confused when this movie came out.

Ok, got them fixed. Since you can post straight from device, just threw in a couple pics from phone of some of the waterfalls (sorry for the crappy quality) as a test.

First one is standing from bottom of Hickory Nut Falls (obviously where Uncas and Alice "fall" from).

Second one is Linville Falls...where they hide under and jump through right after the I will find you scene. That part was filmed in a set however.

Last is Triple Falls...Hawkeye leads the group through here right after they rescue them from the first attack on the way to Fort Henry. You can walk and climb between the levels right where they did. Filmed Hunger Games scenes here too.

Have a pic of the red bridge (at the Biltmore) and plenty of the Blue Ridge Mountains landscapes from the opening and end scenes I'll post some time.

Anyways...absolutely beautiful country out here.
