Absolutely. I think that's why This Is Us is such a hit. Jack and Randall set the tone for their homes, they are strong dads who are there for their family. It's rare today.

Even with Home Improvement, one of my favorite shows as a kid, Tim was a loving dad that supported his family underneath all the grunting and epic fail home projects.

But too many shows today portray the dad's as strictly goofy or distant. They have no wisdom. They're just an old kid. Very sad. Just like that stupid Gillette ad that backfired massively.

I tead the thread title to my wife and her immediate response was Fred McMurray on My Three Sons. My first thought was Robert Young in Father Knows Best.

Mr. Drummond was one of my favorites (adopted Arnold and Willis of course) and ya'll know the rest. Kimberly seemed "out there" from what I recall.

Each kid was likely the offspring with a different woman. how else can you explain all the different grandparents who were great jazz musicians, or philosophers, or fought civil rights, etc. I mean.. the kids had at least 5 or 6 grandfathers alone.

Women watch much more tv than men and are a more valuable marketing demographic for advertisers. Writers are just appealing to their most valuable audience.

Murray Goldberg is great and realistic. He is far from a perfect father and often has trouble communicating how he feels but he always shows up when his family needs him.
