Being a super fan doesn't guarantee a good show. I just hope they invest in good writers and don't blow the budget on costumes and special effects, which will be very tempting given how fantastical the universe is. It will cost a lot to make it look and feel real.

I'm dubious grimdark warhammer can command the budget required to do it Justice.
Thanks and gig'em

You meme ignores other adaptations like The Boys and even Bosch which are well liked by fans of the original medium. You could say the same about Reacher and Jack Ryan.

The problem isn't Amazon mandating things that makes these shows bad, the problem is picking the wrong people to run the shows. Cavill seems like a pretty good pick to run the 40k verse from that perspective.

Aye, Cavill I think is the best choice. At least in terms of passion. Not sure of how actual production chops though.

Still scared for it though. Still seems like a coin flip historically...

Oldhammer is incredible. Though Sigmar is nothing compared to Papa Nurgle.

Still trying to get into Age of Sigmar. Still feeling meh about it, even if the model range for it has never been better. Better than even most of the WH40K range. Not that I actually play anymore though.

I came to Fantasy through the Total War games so I'm not too familiar with AoS. But I keep hearing Oldhammer fans say AoS sucks.

I pitched both an Eisenhorn and Gaunt's Ghosts series to Christian in licensing at Games Workshop back in 2016. At the time I was working with a guy who created a $100 million TV show. Christian said they still had a bad taste in their mouth from the animated film but they would think about it and we set up a date for another meeting. Then radio silence. I know it would have probably happened sooner or later but I am going to take credit for planting the seed.

I've played some of the games. Have one of them on Xbox right now that I dabble in occasionally when i'm bored.

But thanks for this extensive post. I've looked at the Warhammer books for decades in the bookstore and was always fascinated by them. I *think* I may have read one of the space marine focused ones many, many years ago but don't quite recall.

Im going to check out the Horus Rising series. I'm familiar with it because I've seen it a million times on the shelf and picked it up. Not sure why i never bought it.

Generally speaking, the best 40k books are written by Dan Abnett. He did the Eisenhorn and Gaunts Ghosts series. Sandy Mitchell's Ciaphas Cain books are also pretty decent. Some of the other stuff can be hit or miss, though I think the Horus Heresy series is decent.

Warhammer online, vermintide 2, and total war warhammer might be some of my favorite games.

The 40k RTS games were fun too.

Seems like Darktide might be a terd and I don't have a computer for it so haven't tried it out.

So all the tabloids and online fringe entertainment sites are saying Cavill has approached Ana de Armas for a role in his production.

Two things:

YES! De Armas is one of the most gorgeous women to have ever existed. But she is actually a pretty decent actress as well IMO and lends strength on that front too. Did I mention she is physically stunning? Because she is stunning.

This nails down an Eisenhorn production in my mind. Specifically the character, Bequin. We know Cavill is a hopeless Imperial simp but a generic Space Marine story arc is too narrow and the Emperor of Mankind origins too broad. A fantastic, character driven story with a lot of fleshed out lore and background that will still be able to introduce the major players in this setting while still focusing on individuals and their trials and tribulations. I really don't see any other real alternative to try to bring this franchise to the main stream world. Eisenhorn just makes the most sense to me.

Also, this photo emerged when he started coming out of the closet about his Warhammer love. He has the novel Penitent displayed. It is part of a series that is a bit of a spin off from Eisenhorn and centers around the character, Bequin. This was a couple of years ago I believe, so we know the seed is there in his mind….

Of course now that I think of it, another story arc around another person named Ravenor could also make sense, maybe. Hmmmm

As an aside, we were at Barnes & Noble this last weekend and I specifically went to the Warhammer section in Sci-Fi that has existed for years and years. Was going to finally buy a Warhammer book.

That section no longer exists.

Finally got confirmation of a greenlight. Super interested in which direction they end up going. Obviously going to be one of the more mainline story arcs. As mentioned in the article, Cavill wants to play a Primarch or Custodes. Which is problematic as those are not actually 40K (30K). Either way, this is going forward finally!

Horus Heresy? Make it with this tone and you have it down perfectly.

Ah, didn't see your post on it too. My bad.

Yeah, I just wouldn't think they would attempt a start in 30K, given where everything else in the mainstream is. I still like my original Eisenhorn idea but if Cavill is going to be starring, then it's going to be some extremely high level Space Marine I am sure. Ultrasmurfs make the most sense given what is out there IP wise already and how primed the audience is for it. He has said in the past he would be open to a Primarch, which Guilliman would be an option for 40K but you need sooooo much backstory to fill in of why he is even in 40K you might as just start in 30K...

F it, Make him Horus. Episode 1: Isstvaan V; Dropsite Massacre
