And apparently from the very little I've read, Jim Carrey is at his 90s "Carrey-est" in this and doesn't pull back on any of the zany goofy ness that got him so popular to begin with.

T&P please, I am going to see this on Saturday. Both my kids have recently become obsessed with Sonic. They're even watching the crappy cartoons on netflix. I don't even like the games...at least with Mario it was fun to play it with them.
I saw it last night. It was surprisingly funny. I liked it a lot. 7 out of 10.

Saw it last night. 7 and 8 year olds loved it. My wife and I were laughing. Carrey was on point and had some very memorable (quotable) lines.

The mutant Sonic from the first trailer was drug out into the street and shot.
My kids wanted to see this, so we went today. It was pretty good. Carrey was a highlight. A lot of nice action, and I thought Sonic looked great.
I thought they played it a little too simple. The plot played out as expected. I wish they went weirder. Sonic has a really weird comic book series that is fun. I wish they had taken a bigger risk.
Also, stay through the initial animated credits, there is a post credit scene.

Pleasantly surprised.. Jim dusted off his old Ace act with a touch of Fire Marshal
I had a lot of fun. Carrey was awesome

Wow, I take it back. I was pretty entertained. My kids proclaim it the greatest movie they've ever seen. Dunno about that, but a good time had by all.
Best opening weekend by a video game movie at an estimated $57 million vs. last year's Pokemon: Detective Pikachu at $54 million!

Took the kids last weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The kids LOVED it. Carrey was great in it, and we can't wait till the next one comes out.
Taking my 5 year old son to see it today.
Now I'm intrigued but my kids are 14 and 11. See if I can get them to go.

Took my 7 year old to see it. I enjoyed it. He thought it was great. I read about the post credit scene on here and made him wait. Glad I did, the kids still in the theater were all yelling when they saw it. It was hilarious. The scene is after the initial animated credits.

Yeah mine loved it too.
It was fine. Clearly made for a young audience and my daughter loved it. It kind of reminded me of an Alvin and the Chipmunks kind of movie. I wasn't expecting there to be such an important human element in it. I thought most of the Interaction would be Sonic and his people. (Tails, Knuckles, and all the new ones since I stopped playing the games in the mid 90s)
This movie's still doing pretty well at the box office for what it is. It's the record breaking video game adaptation and made $107 million so far. But they will still lose money on it because of the big budget due to reshoots. The budget is $125-135 million.
It's made over 200 million world wide...it'll maybe hit 300 by the end of its run.
Given marketing and other costs it may not have a massive profit, but it'll be considered a "hit' and get a sequel.

Saw it last night, and while the plot was somewhat simple the dialogue/script was awesome and the story fleshed out really well because of that. I've heard great things about it and it still surprised me how much I enjoy it. Hopefully we get a Sonic universe from this.
Since it was a rainy day, we let the kids rent a movie on Prime. Turned out to be pretty good. Probably my favorite video game movie ever (not that it's a high bar).
Not sure if the 2nd movie deserves its own thread…

My favorite part personally, as a Parks and Rec diehard, is when Ben Schwartz, the voice of Sonic, does a Jean-Ralphio callbacks and sings something as "the worst".
