I agree he looked dumb but I wonder how much of a financial difference it really would have made. I can't see kids under 10 refusing to see this movie because it's not a faithful representation of the original character.

Ngl, if they do a solid redesign, ill catch an early showing on a tuesday or sometime like that. If they would have stuck with the current design, i would have said fook no.

I'm embarrassed for all humans who were outraged enough to protest how Sonic the Hedgehog was represented....and that the studio relented.

Gangsta's Paradise seems really out of place in that trailer. Weird that Coolio didn't want Weird Al to parody the song, but approved it in Sonic the movie.

Coolio played our fraternity party a few years back. He is flat out broke.

Sonic was popular 25 years ago. What kid under 10 has a clue as to who/what Sonic is?

1. my kid has known who he was for several years with no input from me. there are cartoons as well as video games that are playable on the Switch, for example.
2. children simply need to see a trailer of a movie with funny stuff happening and weird characters and bright colors to want to see a movie.

27. I got really into sonic when I was about 12. Played the crap outta SA1 and SA2. Also had Sonic Battle on the GBA and really enjoyed that for some reason.

I just don't understand how companies can mess up like this. It seems to happen over and over again, and not just in Hollywood. They spend tons on "market research", but then make crap like this. It's hilarious.

Instead of spending months and tons of money on market research, just spend an afternoon talking to fans of the thing you're making a product out of. Go to conventions. Go to forums and interact with them. Listen Business Executives, if you do that, I guarantee you you'll understand the IP more and have a better idea of what to do with it.

Can you imagine how terrible you must feel about your job security if you did design for a movie and people complained enough from the trailer that they had to redo it?

Maybe they meant to do it, in order to get more money in the long run? The studio has to pay people to redo it. Kinda like planned obsolescence.

At least it's original. It's a fun looking movie. Most actors and actresses look unrealistic compared to us common folk. My 5 and 2 year old will love this movie.

Sonic is huge in meme culture. And that, sadly, is youth culture.

My six year old is a huge sonic fan. Found a bunch of sonic games on the switch. He also found the cartoon on Netflix. He already heard about the movie at school so there must be a kid audience out there.

Jim Carey is an iconic comedic actor. What is y'alls problem with him? I can guess. I just wanna hear you say it.

I have a problem with a guy who takes a paycheck for a movie, and then campaigns against that same movie.

I like some of his movies, but he has always been kind of a loon, and in the last 10 years or so he has been much more public about it.
He's been moving into the premier super-talented-in-one-narrow-way-but-otherwise-utterly-whackadoodle space vacated by Robin Williams.

Which is creepy as hell.
That bottom pic is what Hillary looks like at night when she goes to the lair under the pizza parlor and takes her human mask off.

Jim Carrey is a psychotic loser. He seriously needs mental help but is hardly a sympathetic figure because he's a complete a-hole. Even if this looked awesome, hard pass on any movie that gives him a role.

Here's the thing though: this is on the director and producers, not the designers.

I guarantee you that there were concepts done that look way more true to the character than what we saw in the trailer, but for whatever reason bad decisions were made by leadership on the film and they went this direction. And from chatting with a friend pretty close to the project that seems to be the case.

Movies (and shows and music) are filled with people that despise me and and my family and friends and everything we stand for but still depend on our money. It's when they start preaching down to us, calling us racist or stupid, or just injecting politics into anything they can that earns my disdain. Jim Carrey and Kathy Griffen are in the same arena of craziness...Jim Carrey is just smarter but more psychotic.

Nothing at all wrong with choosing to not see a movie because the people involved act a certain way.
