Man, I'm so jealous, but this is great to hear. People have been raving about this one for weeks, and it just looks like so much fun. Definitely seems like it's poised to be the breakout hit of the summer. It feels like forever since we've had a movie like this - something in the Superbad wheelhouse - and it's kind of crazy that Beanie Feldstein (Jonah Hill's sister) is the one to carry that torch, so to speak, 12 years later. Of course I'll be in Texas Memorial Day weekend, so if it's not a wide release, I'll have to wait 'til the following week to see it. Really looking forward to it, though.

Random question, but another reason I'm so keen to see this is Olivia Wilde. Is there anything about this movie at all that tells you she could direct a fairly heavy drama? We're looking at every director we can for a certain project, but particularly female directors, and Wilde just comes across as whip smart and so motivated, and the way this looks to be shot seems to be above the average comedy. It doesn't look like something from a first-time director at all. Anyway, I ask only because, personally, I don't know anyone who's seen it, but we'll likely be going out to directors before we have a chance to see this, and if she's even remotely an option, I want her to be on the list.

This sounds sooo good. And you've definitely convinced me. Especially in regards to the empathy angle, which is a heavy thematic element in our script. That, and it's female-focused as well. So stoked. May even try to find a way to see this earlier if I can. Thanks for the breakdown!

Just got out. FANTASTIC movie. So fun, and so well done. Olivia Wilde is the sh*t, and will be a big-name director for years to come. Who knew? Awesome soundtrack, too.

I saw it today. It was terrible. It tried way too hard to be funny without actually being funny.

It was funny! I admit it was a little weird how quickly they seemed to sober up after, but I thought the doll stuff itself was creative, harmless fun. It was such a minor beat, I can't imagine letting that get to you.

It didn't "get to me", it was just one example of the many unfunny scenes that were supposed to be funny. It just seemed like a good litmus test to see how hard you're fan boying.

Yep. I came to a Texas A&M message board that only Aggies read to "fanboy" and pledge my allegiance to the hip new indie movie, in the hopes that Hollywood will read this and see how cool I am. It couldn't have anything to do with, you know, having a genuinely positive reaction to the characters, humor, directing, and soundtrack. Nope, that's totally out of the question. I totally get not being into the humor. If you don't like it, that's fine. But it's not a "terrible" movie. Terrible movies usually don't have a 97% on RT after 190 reviews.

I just got home from seeing this and holy **** that was hilarious. The entire theater was laughing so hard throughout the entire movie, I thought one guy was going to have a stroke. To me it was a funnier, smarter version of superbad. I know I'm likely overselling it for most people but I thought it was damn good.

I saw it yesterday as well. It certainly has some funny scenes, but I think you are way over-selling this one. Based on your review, most people will leave the theater thoroughly disappointed.

That's a very fair assessment. But I'm not kidding, all 50ish people in my theater were laughing out loud. I think a lot of it is the style/subject matter of the jokes. If it's not your preferred type of comedy people won't like it. It's definitely female centric and that can be off putting for some.

So they remade Superbad with a gay girl? How 2019 of them.

If Gigi, the weird white kid, and the drama kid were going to the party, why didn't they just get the address from them?

Kidding. Fun movie. The two main girls were great. Billie Lourd was hilarious.

Though it is basically Superbad with girls.

Saw the previews for this a couple months ago, thought it looked pretty vulgar and crass to the point where it wouldn't be funny. Maybe I'll take a second look.

I will just be sitting over here waiting for certain posters to take exception with the fact that you aren't looking for a director but rather a female director.

Because it's a story with a female lead. Written by a dude (me), produced by a bunch of dudes. Would be nice to balance out the perspectives, that's all. If anyone wants to take issue with that, I could not care less.

This is the correct answer. Many of the jokes fall flat. Funny, but no where close to the greats, like Superbad. Tried too hard in a few spots.

Superbad with girls is a pretty accurate description. Also, comparing it to Superbad is a good thing. Funny, vulgar, unoriginal-but-still-modern, and kind of makes you miss all the dumb **** you used to care about in high school. Solid B+ from me.

Gays are less than 5% of the population but make up more than 50% of the characters in this movie and the majority of the storyline.

It was pretty awful if you have conservative values as it was beginning to end nothing but progressivism.

I'll admit there was maybe 2 or 3 funny scenes, but the radical progressivism really diminishes the product. I'd pass if you are conservative.

I understand why feminists, LGBT, progressives, and Antifa would love this film.

My wife is the one who wanted to see it, but after we left said she said she didn't like it.

I wish they would have labeled Superbad as a white, male coming of age movie, instead of just a coming of age movie. I couldn't tell that from the trailers and as a female was really disappointed by my inability to relate to the characters.
