Did not know anything about this. The trailer makes me want to see this.

Will Smith making movies that people actually want to see

Good for him

Looks pretty rad, that de-aging doesnt look right for some reason though.

Hopefully they do some more refinement of that for the final product. I like the concept.

Yeah when they de-age Will Smith, I expect to see Fresh Prince

Lots of dirt bikes getting thrown around.

A movie about hit men who could kick Bruce Lee's ass. Good... we need another one of those.

I don't know what y'all are looking at but I saw will smith from Independence Day with slightly taller hair

For the record, they modeled young Will Smith after Bad Boys Will Smith. That was the official reference. So, circa 1995 when Smith was 27ish.

(A friend of mine worked on this movie, so I've been hearing about the development process for a couple years now.)

Worried that once you get past the special effects there isn't much else there.

This movie has been in production hell for over 20 years. Usually movies that sit that long and go through so many directors actors and scripts have flaws. We will see though I guess,

To be fair, it sat that long because the technology wasn't there yet.

Whatever the trailer looks good so I am in

But then again the trailer for only god forgives was so awesome and that was an abomination of a movie so who knows

Yeah that's fair.
Not rooting against it, I usually like Will Smith movies..just seem to be some possible red flags. I mean, if we didn't have the younger Will Smith angle, would this plot look overly great? Will wait and see what the early reviews look like before considering heading out to see it. Just been burned way too many times on movies that have great FX and not much else.

Looks good. Seems very similar to Looper, though.

The use of a dirt bike as an offensive weapon, twice, in one trailer.

Aight.

Without the younger will smith it's just a regular action movie

The fact that he is a younger clone is the movie. What I read about it is that the actors had to wear little to know makeup because shooting in 3D 4K they looked odd with makeup on. That gives me hope the effects are where they need to be

So, it's not de-aged Will Smith, but totally digital Will Smith.

I can no longer keep my mouth shut on this. This trailer plays in front of every damn movie I see at the theater and it pisses me off how TERRIBLE it looks.

And I don't mean it looks like a terrible movie (though it doesn't do much for me anyway), but it literally looks terrible. I assume this was shot on a digital camera, but so is everything these days. But this partcular movie looks like a cheap, digital movie, maybe even shot on a super high res smartphone, and even suffers from some soap-opera effect. It bothers me every time I see the trailer.

There's literally better looking vlogs on Youtube. It's like the opposite of cinematic. Whatever Ang Lee did for this movie, I hope no one ever does. Ever, ever again.

120 FPS? That certainly explains it.

This seems like a cool concept to me

I also wonder how long it'll be until multiple (if not all) cast members of any movie are going to be digital

They could've done it decades ago with the Stanton twins.

Re-watching it, there are definitely some Matrix Reloaded moments where it looks off, but it's very brief. The technology has definitely improved since Tron 2 as an example

This may not be the definitive movie where we finally cannot tell it's CG, but it's getting close.

Bump.

Thoughts?

I saw it, the technology is pretty dang cool on the CGI for the young Will Smith. Sometimes, it was so good that you couldn't tell that it was CGI. It's that good. But then other times, it's just not quite right. So the movie both impressed me and underwhelmed me visually. Just hit and miss, but the hits are amazing.

As for the story and entertainment, it was pretty standard stuff but I really liked it. Will Smith is good, and it was just fun.

They say that you need to see this at a theater that actually plays it in 120 fps, but apparently there are only like 10-15 of those in America. So you won't get the full effect unless you see it in one of those, I guess. I've also read that you should see it in IMAX 3D if possible. I saw it in IMAX but not 3D. Anyway, overall, it was a fun movie experience but not quite what I had hoped it would be.

I haven't seen it but reviews say the CGI is pretty bad and besides that it's your basic movie where the people who trained the protagonist end up hunting him down.. I'll wait for Netflix.

No other love for this here? Had to dig several pages in to find it.

Was on a cruise the past week and got to see this and Terminator Dark Fate both in IMAX and I actually kinda liked this better. As the quoted poster said, there were times with the de-aged Will Smith that were uncanny but some times it was bad CGI. Overall I thought it was a good movie. Had a lot of great action sequences.

What wasn't advertised well is that this is a completely IMAX film so it's definitely worth seeing in that format.

I'd say sooner than you'd think...probably one generation or so away...
