Really surprised they put this as his highest rated song.

Shocked this made the list. Great song but you almost never hear it played anymore.
Love both of those songs!!

Mellencamp's (Cougar at the time) first initial minutes of that song are extraordinary, and totally against what you think when you think his music...maybe why it's my favorite song by him.

Paperlate, if I remember correctly, was released at their height, and it wasn't even on an album. It was on some sort of mini-EP or something? Great horns, very EW&F sounding.

I remember Murder by Numbers was also released as a stand-alone single, in similar fashion.

I hadn't heard the album version of that song in a while. Very cool extended instrumental intro.

That's true for Genesis - Paperlate was on an EP called 3x3 - with 3 songs.

For Murder by Numbers I assume you mean the Police song. That's not exactly true - due to space limitations Murder by Numbers was not on the Vinyl LP but it was included on the original cassette and CD versions of Synchronicity. And I don't think it was ever released as a single itself - except as the B side to "Every Breath You Take" single and it got airplay as a result too but never charted. That's the only incarnation of the song on vinyl as far as I know (in the US anyway - could have been some other Euro or Japanese versions).
