This show feels like it should be considered a guilty pleasure - but it's too awesome and enjoyable where I don't feel guilty at all. I am eagerly awaiting a next season more than any other show I can recall.

S2 drifted closer to tween drama. If it werent for Kreese, I would have probably turned it off.

Johnny's interactions with Miguel are the best moments in the series. I honestly couldn't care less about the LaRussos or Robby.

For the most part I agree with all that you are saying I watched this series on Youtube a while back - but Johnny is Johnny and the old gang get together right before Rob Garrison actually passed away in real life was legit.

Yeah he's been really good.

Feels like somebody really screwed up Ralph Macchio's acting ability during Karate Kid III because as bad as he was in that film, he's equally as bad in Cobra Kai. Don't get me wrong, I friggin love that guy, but he's been a noticeably worse actor since Karate Kid II.

PS: Also wanted to send my appreciation for getting the gang back together right before Rob Garrison passed away. "Get him a body bag, YEEAAAHHHH!!!"... RIP brother!

I haven't seen any of the seasons yet, but I'm definitely intrigued.

Is it appropriate for 8 & 11 year old boys? They have seen the movie (the original). We haven't watched any of the movie sequels as a family.

I finished the series over the weekend and looking forward to season 3. The original movie is a favorite, and SOME of the sequels are very enjoyable.

However, I will equate this show to a Lifetime TV show for guys.

I never thought I would be agreeing with Johnny, or liking him - as he was the perfect teenage/high school bully; I compared every a**hole I ever met to him/his character. (I guess, now that I'm thinking about it, Billy Z is a better actor than I originally thought.)

Absolutely - go for it.

My 10yo daughter watched some of it with me while she played on the computer, and she was intrigued. But I was watching the last couple episodes, so every time she asked questions I had to pull out the Lebowski quote, "Life does not stop and start at your convenience" (I don't finish the actual quote). Which she completely understands b\c of my love of that movie, she's heard it a million times.

Yeah, I'd love to read the season 1 thread. I couldn't find it in the Search either.

Watched both seasons this week. Love Johnny Lawrence's character. So many great LOL moments from him....and all of them non-PC. Heres hoping Netflix doesn't change his character from his "don't be a *****" mantra!

Oh, my favorite scene was the dream sequence that became an 80's Whitesnake MTV Video....

It's been in the can for a year. Netflix wanted build up rather than releasing all 3 seasons at once.

The creators are great follows on tweeter.

Started watching this weekend and its a great show for a number of reasons. Danny Larusso is still cheesy but not as good of a guy as portrayed in the movie. His wife is a total babe. I'm finding myself relating to Johnny way more than I thought i would but his story is great. Zabka really makes the show

I was watching it with my kid and before the part where Daniel does the "show me wax the floor" epiphany with Robby, I paused it and showed the original scene with Miyagi and Daniel, and Ralph Macchio was actually a good actor back then. It's weird how he regressed so much. How does that happen?

The whole vibe of the series if completely different from the movie. The movie was a fairly straight drama whereas the show has more of a cheesy 80's comedic vibe. (And it works for it.)

Not quite comparable imo.

I would say he was never really a very good actor.

I'm not sure it was a vibe thing. On the original karate kid there were no "cringe" moments based on anybody's acting. Now Ralph Macchio's acting seems stiff. I can't really put my finger on it, but it seems like he is trying too hard to make Daniel have gravitas like Miyagi. Maybe it's that he is good at the "aw shucks" type of thing (which is all he did in the original KK movie), but comes off like Pee Wee Herman trying to play General Patton when he is in "sensei mode". And his karate makes me cringe. Looks like hasn't done it at all since he left the KK set.

BTW, this makes me respect Pat Morita more. He went from Arnold in Happy Days to playing Miyagi as convincingly as anybody I could imagine, including the karate. Even though he didn't do anything particularly fancy, I always had the notion that he could.

I have the opposite feeling about Zabka (compared to Macchio). I basically forgot about him as a has-been. I've only seen him in KK1 and Back to School. He was good at being intimidating in KK, and okay in BtS I guess, but he makes this show. Without him, this show would be like Saved By the Bell with karate. I never considered that he could be funny, but he's damn funny even with the subtle physical humor. And he's quite convincing on karate. It seems he has kept at it since the original movie ended. Either that or he is a natural athlete who can just pick that stuff right up. Now I hope he ends up in more stuff (not tied to KK) in the future.

CK is

95% Zabka (Johnny Lawrence)
3% Machio (DanielSon)
2% Everything else

If there is a contract negotiation coming up for the show Zabka holds all the cards. Who woulda guessed a couple of years ago that obscure guy who played Johnny Lawrence in KK would be in this kinda position these days?

He's been on the periphery of Hollywood. He directed a short that was nominated for an Oscar. Was in Hot Tub Time Mavhine, which makes sense since the guys who made that movie are covcreators of Cobra Kai. He also played himself on How I Met Your Mother. I've followed him and always hoped he'd get the success he deserved.

This is a legit good show that does away with a lot of common tropes and goes against the usual type-casting. It's really smart and interesting writing that isn't the same old same old.

So Season 3 has been shot and will be released in 2021 at some point.

However, as with any show that has kids playing a big role you gota wonder how age of kids, and shooting delays due to covid are going to affect this show's setting and storyline. At some point I'm guessing they gota make the leap into college and not sure that'll be as fun as the high school setting.

late to the party as well. This whole thing is 80's nostalgia awesomeness. Wife and I had a night of depression when we finished S2. What a fun, well made, heartfelt series.

This may be old news, but it blew my mind:

Ralph Macchio is 7 years older now than Pat Morita was when KK1 came out.
