I'd settle for an un-PC, accurate miniseries about Captain Jack C. Hays. Don't even have to make anything up for about 6-8 hours of craziness (losing his parents as a teen and heading to Texas with little more than a letter of introduction from President Andrew Jackson, Rangering and the Comanches, Battle of Salado Creek/Woll's invasion force into Texas, Mexican War in Matamoros, the road to California, Sheriff of San Francisco County and founder of Oakland, CA.)
People would think it's fiction, because bits and pieces of his actual life were borrowed for the plot of just about any western you can think of. Mel Gibson missed his window of opportunity.
