Seeing as Episode IX hits theaters exactly one year from tonight, and will thus mark the end of the Skywalker saga, I figured it might be fun to do a year-long rewatch/discussion of all the live-action Star Wars content. And it just so happens that the existing/coming content fits perfectly with the remaining months leading up to Episode's IX's release...

... so, in each of the next twelve months, on the first day of each month, I'll start a new thread for that month's film (or TV series in November's case, as The Mandalorian should be released by then). And that thread will be devoted to discussing that movie/series only as we gear up for Episode IX. It's been over a decade since I've watched some of these films, and even though a few of them are obviously terrible, I still want to revisit them for the sake of story/background filler.

Discussion will of course be encouraged in the respective threads after each film's month is over, so anyone can start/discuss whenever, this is mainly a "suggested" pace. That, and the Episode IX thread obviously already exists, and I'm sure a thread for The Mandalorian will be up relatively soon, so November/December's thread postings won't exactly coincide with their respective months, though the bulk of the discussion obviously will.

Anyway, I'll post The Phantom Menace thread on January 1 and will hopefully make time to watch the movie itself and join in the discussion soon after. In the meantime, let me know if you guys have any other suggestions...

Also, if The Mandalorian somehow hits by September (which is definitely a possibility), I'll switch up/bump the remaining months and move The Mandolorian to September, since that's where it falls chronologically, after Return of the Jedi in August. We should have a series release date by April at Celebration.

And for the record I think this is a cool idea. However, I won't be watching The Phantom Menace. My dog even hates that movie because he literally ate the Blu-ray Disc and unless it's free somewhere I'm not paying for it again.

It'll be on Disney's new streaming service, Disney+, which is launching "late 2019." Eight episodes, Game of Thrones-level budget ($100M+). Set five years after Return of the Jedi, "after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order" and follows "a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic."

I'm actually down for this but will probably not watch 1 per month... more likely I'll binge watch later in 2019.

I do think watching all of these will both make me forget about space ghost Leia and get me excited for Episode 9.

Sticking with live action for this particular experiment. Animation, film or not, opens the door for all the other animated stuff, and the movie is more a continuation of the show than anything else. You guys are obviously welcome to do/include it on your own, though.
