I wonder if you buy all the songs individually, does that count as an album sale? What if they are bought over a long period of time?
Per the article linked above 1500 streams of a song or 10 downloads of a song equal 1 album sale.
which is kind of jacked up.. some modern pop princess can have one huge song.. no one downloads the album, yet she can have millions of album sales because the song was downloaded tens of millions of times.

it's just not the same as it used to be.

I see you're point about single songs driving an album but it's not really different than how it's always been. People have always bought full albums for one song, but sale still counted the whole album (The full Titanic soundtrack sold 10 million copies).
It is very different, because a physical single sale doesn't count towards a physical album sale, and lots of people used to buy singles in physical form.

To clarify my point; The 'My heart will go on' single has sold 18 million units. Those are in addition to the 30 million worldwide full album sales.
Or looking at i will always love you; single sold 20 million copies, and bodyguard album sold an additional 45m copies.

By the way, Hotel California is the third highest selling album of all time too. So they have 1 and 3.
Folks continually underestimate them, dismiss them for a variety of reasons, they just keep selling records.

I think it's because bros never go around talking smack about how much the Eagles rock bro!

But you listen to them at home. And people watch their specials and sellout their concerts whenever they come to town. And you gradually find out they have other tracks besides the radio hits that you like. But you still only admit to liking them if you're talking to a friend you really trust.

My favorite Eagles song is Chug All Night. Red stone should know it as it was from their first album before they got huge.

Of the threads I have started here over the yearst, his would have been towards the bottom of the ones I thought would have gained traction.
The world is a strange place.

Haha. I can (semi) publicly say I am a big eagles fan, hence me starting the thread.
Many of my favorite eagles tracks aren't the truly popular ones, Last Resort, Wasted Time, Try and Love Again etc. - they have a really deep quality catalog.
I will also say to some of the earlier posts, it's adult music theme-wise and musically. People of multiple generations have grown into it. 10 year olds aren't going to be all up in the themes of hotel California, but adults can all relate to many of the themes across their songs. Along with the crossover appeal, it is why they keep selling like they do.
