With the arrival of reserved seating at theaters the need to purchase tickets ahead of time has become mandatory. Not a problem through Cinemark's app, if you pay with gift card then there's no extra fee. Great, haven't been to the other theater since.

Welp, not anymore. Now you have to pay a convenience even with a gift card! I just paid an extra 30% to buy tickets! Guess I'll be going back to the other theater now.

I'm just glad theaters are still around. I'm a little worried that someday soon there will be no more 'movie' theaters.

Yea...with the advances in home entertainment the days of overpriced concessions, phones ringing, and bright cell phones ruining the emersive expereince might soon be over.

They made the fee universal to entice people to join their movie club. It waives the fee and gives you a free ticket.

No matter how good my at home setup is, it will never beat IMAX.

I do AMC Stubs and I think it's good value between the concessions upgrades and shorter lines plus the waived convenience fee. I'd guess Cinemark's thing is basically the same.

I don't have a problem with it. I only go to the the theaters for blockbuster films. I don't see it as only paying to see the movie. You pay for the experience. If I want to see a movie that's not a blockbuster but don't want to wait for Redbox or Vudu, I'll catch it at the "$1" theater.

Lets see. Noland releases a film once every 3 years, Ridley Scott one every 4.

"Oh boy I cant wait to see Black Panther in IMAX!" said no one ever.

Yeah, they kinda forced me to join their Movie Club last week.

It's $9 a month, but I'll pretty much pay for that just in saving the $1.50 service fee per ticket (my family of four go to the movies often). I signed up right before we all went to see the Last Jedi and we probably saved half that amount with the 20% discount on all concessions.

I had originally loaded a gift card onto my Cinemark account because they would waive the fee if you did that, but with the introduction of their Movie Club they took that away.

And I don't know what crappy theaters some others go to, but I haven't had a problem with cell phones ringing or being too bright, or kids crying or anything like that in a movie in years. And no matter how good home televisions get, they don't make one the size of the XD screen that'll fit in my house. No matter what some people say, going to see a movie in a really nice theater is an experience that can't be matched in a home, where there are 10x more distractions.

Two shows I went to opening weekend this year were GOTG2 & TLJ. Why the **** are people bringing toddlers or babies to a 7:30 pm Thursday or Friday night showing? Most people get it. It's just been one azzhole couple in a large auditorium theater.

TFA, ROTS, AOTC were all terrible to see opening weekend. Whenever they would introduce a character from the original trilogy: mouthbreathing nerds felt the need to yell/cheer/clap.

"ERMERGAERD IT'S CHEWBACCA!!!" "YES!!YES!!YEEEEEEESSSS!! R2 SPRAYED OIL AND EVADED THE BATTLE DROID!"

You would not imagine the amount of cheers that got in my viewing.

At least the infant is incapable of understanding it is disturbing the audience's experience; "grown" men in their 20s and 30s, wearing robes, not wearing deodorant have no excuse.

how else will they let everyone else in the theater know that they got the reference?

I was a showing where a couple brought their baby. It was a showing of DETROIT! Trying to imagine a less "take your child to see this one" movie. Baby was pretty quiet surprisingly.

I've seen more than my fair share of idiocy at the movies, and over the last 5 years or so, I have no qualms about telling someone to STFU. I've yet to have to get an usher.

To get back on track, is the new movie club stuff worth it? Does anyone know if you can save up the free monthly ticket and use several on the same movie (like for a family of 4)?

Well, afterward, I guess there is value in being able to tell your kid, "If you don't behave, I'm going to call Pete and his buddies to come rape you"

I know the unused ones roll over, I would assume you can use them on the same movie. I don't buy concessions so the 20% savings there don't do anything for me and I can generally get tickets for under $5, so the movie club isn't worth it for me.
