I mean who here wouldn't be gay for Gaston? He's perfect, a pure paragon.

I love Disney and I'll probably still see it, but I have to admit it is frustrating. As TCCTS said, in this day and age, it's kind of expected. I will probably wait, however, and screen it before taking my kids just in case.

What frustrates me is that I get so exhausted watching the increase in blatantly agenda driven subplots being crammed into entertainment and even family movies. I just wish there could be a sacred ground of agenda free entertainment for young audiences.

Hopefully it's no big deal and much ado about nothing. I heard all the criticism about this in finding dory and when I saw it I thought all the hype was not warranted.

Come on Disney, don't disappoint. Make entertainment, not political pandering pieces.

Also, I don't recall thinking of le fou as gay in the cartoon version... imho. Could see how someone else may think so, but that's the point isn't it... interpret how you may, as it's not an important subplot.

They should just have Beast and Gaston hook up.

"What's the matter Beast? Too kind and gentle to fight back?"

"Oooh...you're so strong"

...

Then they hug and smooch and Belle is standing there all dumbfounded.

That would be a plot twist.

It's 2017. To anyone perceiving homosexuality as something "bad" or something your kid either can't comprehend, or, worse, something they shouldn't be exposed to - that's on YOU. Not Disney. Getting upset at Disney for something like that is basically asking them to "pander" to YOUR views of sin and sexuality. I obviously don't want to get into a debate over whether homosexuality is right or wrong. That's not what I'm getting at. But you have to realize that your opinion on the matter is just that - your opinion.

I think it would be a harder conversation to explain to your kid why you are upset at fictional characters.

I am going to take my wife and make both my sons come along. They'll gripe. But it's the least we can do considering mom is in an all boy household and has to sit thru Start Wars, Avengers, etc when she could really care less.

Yeah, that's how I always interpreted it. This statement of "everyone knows he's gay" is just someone else's interpretation. I never really got the impression that he is gay.

I've had some people state they think it will be rather mundane, not in your face ... which is probably the best I could hope for. Kinda like the scene in Finding Dory that had a bunch of people upset last summer, and turned out to be basically nothing, if you blinked you probably didn't even see it. But the fact that the director is on record stating that the character is gay is reason enough to give me a bit of pause here. Just make the movie, not an indoctrination piece.

Regardless of how much you and your clergy-of-choice has barked at them, your kids don't think being gay is all that strange. And when they're old enough to have kids of their own, they'll just kind of nervously laugh at how upset their "parents' generation" used to be about something so mundane.

Time marches on.

They won't be able to because they'll all be gay thanks to companies like Disney forcing they're own agenda

They are free to pander to whomever they choose of course. I just wont be seeing it now. Im disappointed because I was looking forward to it. I don't see why I should feel obligated to still see the movie.

No one's saying that you're obligated to see it. It's just kind of insane that you're choosing not to because of something so minor and inconsequential.

Based on a few reviews, Disney might piss off the LGBT community with this as much as the evangelicals.

There's a lot of insanity in the world.

Choosing to not watch a movie--for whatever reason--is not even on the spectrum.

So you have actually been in my house and at my church observing how I interact with my child?

No barking here. Nothing of the kind. But the lesson that I have taught is Biblical with regard to homosexuality. It is not like my child is unaware of this topic. I just don't think that this belongs in a Disney Princess movie. I'd say the same thing if Belle was shown on screen taking off that big puffy yellow dress and jumping into the sack with the beast (that is, after he transformed back to a man). No place for that either. Although adults know that would be the end result at some point.

My bet is most kids won't even notice it. Le Fou is a toady and he and Gaston sing a song about how beautiful Gaston is. I mean,...it's not exactly a stretch. And it is not a big deal. Who cares if a minor character winks at another man or whatever? It's a movie where a clock and a candelabra come to life.

Well, he's not exactly another species, he's enchanted, so there's that.

I saw somewhere that there are theaters that aren't showing the movie now because of this issue.

The biggest movie of the year not named Star Wars, and a theater chain in Alabama is refusing those sacks and sacks of cash?

Russia might ban.

To me I think it's burying the lead - from reviews I've seen so far, it seems like it's a good-but-not-great film, and that matters a lot more than whether that annoying goon is gay or not. If this movie isn't as good as it should be, then that's pretty disappointing.

When I was in high school in Alabama, the local radio station played an alternative version of "I want to sex you up" before 10pm- it was "I want to love you up". A terrible song made even worse.

We also had a banquet / prom so those that didn't believe in dancing could go home after the banquet. (Church of Christ banned dancing - same religion as the movie theater owner)

That's the real counter to hiding behind the bible on the subject of "the gay"
