Nice. I mean, this looks like a very literal adaptation of the animated film in it's set design. It looks like the cartoon come to life.

So, what are we thinking box office for this? This is going to make a boat-load of cash and start Disney off for another huge year.

The Cinderella movie made over $500 million and was well received. The Jungle Book got rave reviews and made almost $1 billion (!). Those movies didn't really have any big star power to draw in audiences, either. Beauty is already a beloved classic and has Emma Watson in it, so I'm thinking this movie should clear $1.5 billion easy, which would put it above Furious 7 and the Avengers. It may even top Jurassic World's $1.67 billion and land it at #4 behind the Force Awakens. Is $2 billion even possible?

Oh, and it's nice to see Kevin Kline in another movie. That was cool.

[edit] Holy sh*t! I just looked up the March schedule on imdb:

March 3 - Logan
March 10 - Kong: Skull Island
March 17 - Beauty and the Beast
March 24 - Power Rangers AND Guy Ritchie's King Arthur movie
March 31 - Ghost in the Shell

What the hell????? March 2017 looks better than any single month we had this summer of 2016!

If any week looks the weakest, it's 3/24, which should bode well for Beauty and the Beast's gross.

Can $1.5B be done in March, though? If it were any other movie, I'd be hard pressed to say $1B could be feasible, but then again this movie is going to be a box-office beast.

The original is my favorite Disney animated feature. By far. This trailer does in fact look like a live action adaptation of the animated classic. This looks fantastic. Disney, on the heels of Rogue One, will be literally printing money.

Disney could literally focus solely on Marvel, Star Wars, and live-action adaptations of their animated movies, and guarantee at least 2 or 3 $1B+ blockbusters per year.

If any movie can, it's this one. This movie will draw in EVERYONE. And little kids (especially girls) will see this multiple times. It'll be their Titanic.

I haven't seen anything about it, but if it also comes out in IMAX 3D, It will dominate. It'll kick Kong out after one week and will stay in it for weeks after. They won't replace this movie with Power Rangers or Ghost in the Shell on the IMAX screens, not with the money it'll pull in.

We just got back from Disney world 5 days. I can't take another Disney fairy tale and especially not a retread.

This could topple the domestic gross record for sure. Have no idea how it translates internationally.

Clay Travis has a lot to say on the subject and makes a great deal of sense. Viewers want sports, not politico/SJW drama

My daughter is currently 10; her next birthday is the day after Beauty and the Beast comes out. Her best friend's birthday is a week later, so of course the two moms involved here have determined that we will be having a combined birthday party for the girls to see this movie on opening night. That's great, I said.

Then my daughter, who once really loved all the Disney Princesses and even had a couple of Belle dresses, said something that saddened me a bit. She said she doesn't like the Princesses any more. She has been reading the Harry Potter books in recent months, and has seen all the movies. She is really digging that the gal who played Hermione is also Belle. She suggested she could go to this birthday party wearing a Hermione costume.

Ugh. I told her that would be like going to see the next Star Wars movie wearing a Captain Kirk costume. She said, "Who's Captain Kirk?" I had to laugh.

She should do a mash up. Wear a Belle dress, Gryffindor Scarf, bring a wand, and a book is appropriate for both.

She is according to Disney (I just learned something new):
Quote:

Each Official Disney Princess must meet the following requirements: A) has a primary role in a Disney animated feature film, B) is human or mostly human-like (e.g. Ariel), and C) does not appear primarily in a sequel. The actual title of Princess (or equivalent) is not necessary, but certainly helps.
