The only reason I know who Luis Guzman is by name is because of Community.

Boogie Nights?
I think what he's saying is that in Boogie Night's he was "That Guy". But in Community he got to play himself and they featured Luis Guzman, the actor. So he finally got to learn his name. Hence he is the very definition of "That Guy".

I think Paul Giamatti is more big time than the original spirit of this thread.

I was watching a few minutes of Under Siege and saw "that guy" who is always in a military briefing, but I can't seem to track down his name.

No, he may have had a larger role in the movie, but I honestly was just channel surfing and saw the guy I am talking about in a meeting of military brass. His face is recognizable as "that guy", but definitely not at the level of Fred Thompson.

I bet you're thinking of Glenn Morshower.

He's the go-to guy for tough guy generals.
I remember him being interviewed on the Ticket a few years back. (He's from Dallas)

He brought up the story about how he played a general in the first Transformers movie that was killed and Michael Bay decided to bring him back in Transformers 2 as a different general.

He was Deputy Chief of Police Dwayne T. Robinson in Die Hard. Not one of the Agent Johnsons.
Speaking of Agent Johnson, he's a good "that guy"

Beth Grant

I know she's not a "guy", but she's been in all kinds of stuff playing crazy southern women.

Not sure if her run on The Mindy Project disqualifies her, but she's had bit parts for nearly all if her career.

This might be the guy, but I swore he looked older in the scene I saw. I might have to record the movie and screen grab it.

Michael Bay ladies and gentlemen!

Probably the only decision Bay made for TF 2 that I agree with.

I'm sure the conversation with the casting director went something like:
Casting Director: "Well, we've got this role for an Army General."
Bay: "Call Glenn Morshower."
Casting Director: "...ummm.....we already cast him in the first movie. And his character died."
Bay: "Who f-ing cares? We need someone good to be an Army General? Get Glenn Morshower on the phone."

I noticed it the when I first saw TF2....and I didn't care.

Per IMDB: "As an actor he has played the role of no less than 53 different law enforcement/military personnel: 22 police/law enforcement officers; 21 military personnel; and 10 government agents. Recently, he has played the role of quite a few Secret Service agents."

Jesse Plemons fit that role for a while. Also, for a woman I'd mention Gillian Vigman.

Even disregarding the Tom Cruise post, some of y'all are not that good at this.

My input: Bruce McGill. First celebrity I ever saw in a random public setting. Downtown Austin P.F. Chang's for a friend's birthday party years ago.

Animal House

My Cousin Vinny

Cinderella Man

The Legend of Bagger Vance

Law Abiding Citizen

And many more appearances that always make me think, "Hey, look, it's that guy."

and MacGyver

Also a prime role in the Quantum Leap finale. Great actor
I had the pleasure of spending 8 weeks doing a show with Bruce McGill years ago at Pasadena Playhouse. He played Orson Welles and I was his Irish assistant. Dude was a pretty good guy and had tons of stories.
He was also great in an episode of Miami Vice.
