Really? It's 83/89 on Rotten Tomatoes right now. Those are pretty good numbers.
Don't know man. Is Rotten Tomatoes really the be all end all? Havent seen it, but I have heard the jokes about it.

Saw it last night and man, that's a bad movie. Really surprised that Hanks went through with it. The true life story is great and it's fine to honor Sully but this movie, from a pure moviemaking standpoint, was laughably bad as you warned. Every cliche in the book, and they're poorly done. The characters in NYC are such bad caricatures it makes you cringe. The investigators are just as bad. And while I love Hanks as an actor, the movie itself gives you absolutely no insight into Sully as a person. It's just Hanks looking confused and bewildered for 90 minutes and talking in a hushed voice. Very disappointing.

Fun fact about American Pastoral:

My brother is actually good friends with Ewan McGregor through their shared love of Volkswagens. Ewan actually helped my brother with a documentary called The Bug Movie that I've posted on the Automotive board. When it came time to film American Pastoral, Ewan sought my brother's help in finding vintage cars for the movie. My brother spent several months serving as a consultant and working on set. When filming was almost over, Ewan offered to pay my brother for his efforts. My brother didn't want payment as it was just fun to be involved. Ewan didn't want my brother's services to go unappreciated, so he made this billboard for him and worked it into a scene. That's my brother's name. I can't wait to see the movie and this little nod to my bro.

Ewan is a class guy all the way. I've met him a couple of times and he is a down-to-earth dude. I wish all actors were this way.

Trailer for Nocturnal Animals just released. This. Looks. Fantastic.

Two things come to mind from that trailer... First, can we all just agree that David Fincher is maybe the most influential director of the last decade? So many movies look like Fincher and his style now. That's not a knock on Ford who I think is really really good, but you could have told me that was a trailer for a Fincher movie and I wouldn'y have questioned your for a second. And along those lines, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' score for The Social Network has to be up there on the influence list as well. I hear touches of it in so many different movies these days.

Just added it to the OP (hits theaters in limited release on 11/18). Looks awesome. Ford's last effort, A Single Man, was absolutely stunning, so I'm really looking forward to this as well.

And yeah, I would argue that Fincher is right behind Spielberg in terms of overall influential style. Fincher is, hands down, my all time favorite director.

That reminds me, I just saw this linked to on Twitter the other day... Tom Ford's INSANE New Mexico ranch that is currently up for sale. Anyone have a cool $75 million handy?

I forgot to post, but I got to see Other People (it's in the OP) and man.. that was both the saddest and one of the funniest movies I've seen this year (both intentional!). Molly Shannon is phenomenal. Jesse Plemons is good too, but I personally can't see him as anything other than Landry from FNL.

I think it's available on Itunes and still in Limited Release. I would say as much as I enjoyed it, this one you can just watch at home when you get the chance. I also tend to enjoy sadder movies like this more at home.

Not a single bat in the trailer?

Kidding aside, that looks like an incredible cast for such a film.

Just found out about War Machine (no, not a new MCU film).

Netflix film slated for "2016" with a strong cast. I'm sure it'll be divisive on here, as the topic is based on a nonfiction of Gen. McChrystal (from the guy who wrote the article that lead to McChrystal's "resignation"), but I'm interested.

Unfortunately, it sounds like that one has been pushed back to 2017, though not officially yet.

Ha, don't stop! They're good finds. Just know that if it's not on the list, I've probably purposefully left it off. But there are no doubt a few I've missed here and there.

Also, just FYI, this week we'll be getting...

- The debut trailer for Passengers. Finally.

- The debut trailer for Fences, the new Denzel movie I mentioned earlier.

- Another (and probably final) trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Haha, kidding of course. There are few ways I enjoy wasting time more than trolling IMDB following directors, writers, or actors I favor and making mental notes of which films I will avoid trailers for.

First trailer for Blue Jay. I have heard some buzz about Sarah Paulson perhaps being in the Best Actress race with this.

So is Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk the movie I had hope american sniper was going to be?
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Did you hope American Sniper was going to be an overly-sentimental cheese-fest? Because I think Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk looks like one of the stupidest movies to come around in a long, long time. That halftime footage in the trailer is just atrocious. I'll give anything a shot, though - maybe the war stuff really is fantastic - but man, I legitimately almost thought it was a parody movie the first time I saw the trailer.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I read the synopsis of the book on wiki and it seemed like it was going to be a critique of the disconnect between the home front and the battle front in the gwot.

Kid goes to war, watches some of his friends get killed, gets sent back home to be used by the recruiting machine, while everyone goes about their normal life like nothing is going on.

TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
And that sounds like a worthy, cinematic experience. It just looks like it's been executed in a hokey manner. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I just can't get over how dumb the "halftime" of it all looks.

Agree with TC. It looks pretty wonky in the trailer - like it's some sort of George Lucas green screened dream world.

Saw the Halftime Walk trailer for the first time with the Magnificent Seven yesterday.

I was absolutely stunned to see Ang Lee's name on this. This looks like it's such a step down from the work he has done; especially visually. The scenes on the "football field" looked absolutely ridiculous and cheap. I mean....really bad. His last film was Life of Pi?

I understand the main theme of the movie (the difficulty of returning to a normal life after the horrors of war), but I think the trailer thought people might not get it, so they had about three separate occasions in the trailer where someone asks Billy "so what happened to you over there?" and he just stares at them. Okay, we get it. War is hell.

Pass.

A few updates...

- Martin Scorsese's Silence has finally been given a limited, Oscar-qualifying release date of December 23, with a wide release coming sometime in January.

- 20th Century Women, another potential Oscar contender, has been given a Christmas Day limited release, with a wide release set for January 20.

- The trailer for Fences debuted in theaters this past week, but still isn't online. Should be online any day now, though.

- The trailer for Patriot's Day - the Mark Wahlberg Boston Marathon bombing movie - will hit this week with Deepwater Horizon.

Right on queue, the teaser trailers for both Fences and 20th Century Women, both of which look fantastic (and have been added to the OP as well)...

And btw, in my opinion, the real fall season begins this weekend with Deep Water Horizon. From here on out, from October through December, there's at least one movie releasing literally every weekend that I want to see. That, and the Oscar contenders "officially" kick off in October as well. Going to be a great next three months at the theater, probably my favorite time of year for movies.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Damn, Fences looks really, really good. That was a perfectly done trailer in my opinion.
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agreed. Shows just enough to make you go "Holy sh*t!" without really spoiling anything. IMO, they definitely don't need to release a full trailer.

I find it really annoying when movies come out in limited release in late December solely to qualify for the Oscars.

Why base your release on the Awards season? Is memory really that short-term in Hollywood that a recent release will get more attention than a movie that's been out longer?
