The last scene with Benjen really bugs me. Several times this season we've been reminded of the phrase "I wish you good fortune in the wars to come". When Benjen leaves Bran and Meera, he says "I wish both of you good fortune..." There is a long pause and he rides off. If you are like me, it seemed odd he didn't finish it with "...in the wars to come". He knows a war is coming. Why didn't he finish that sentence? They left that pause to give you time to realize what was missing. There is something important there, I just can't figure it out.

Question: In the books, wasn't there a horn that Euron supposedly had that would undo the magic and bring the wall down?

It's been awhile since I read them.

the horn of winter ?

Euron had a horn that could apparently control a dragon in the books. But it isn't exactly stated whether it works or not.

What this guy said. Mance Rayder claimed to have the horn of winter, but Tormund later tells Jon it was a fake. Euron's horn is magical, though. The guy that blew it ended up dead, with his lungs charred black.

Euron's horn is different. It supposedly controls Dragons, thus its name 'Dragonbinder' but he gave it to Victarion.

We know Jon's real parents will come out sooner or later. Any chance of him an Sansa becoming kissing cousins?

Yeah really interested to see how it ties in later in the books. It had valyrian script that began to glow when the slave who it killed blew it

Good video about the Horn and updates on it if anyone is interested.

If there's anything as hard to endure as Aggie football off-season, it's Game of Thrones off-season. I expect at some point we'll get Winds of Winter, but for the rest of the time I'm going to be wondering about who will be cast as Rhaegar Targaryen.

We know Bran is going to be obsessed with looking further back (hopefully through some crucial Robert's Rebellion moments) to unravel more of Jon's history, so at some point they will have to introduce Rhaegar himself. Surely at least the tournament when he gave Lyanna the crown of winter roses will have to be included. And there will have to be some indication or display of R+L getting married, if that did indeed happen.

For such an iconic figure, who do you cast? He's got to be regal-handsome, purple-eyed, charismatic, a great warrior AND a good singer. Considering those qualities and depending on how much screen time he gets in Bran's visions, we could get some pretty memorable scenes, much like I expect we'll probably get from Euron in the future as well (though probably less singing).

My guess is we'd only see him to possibly marry Lyanna. So he won't need to sing or fight. Also, purple eyes aren't a requirement; isn't Dany supposed to have purple eyes, too? I wouldn't expect any tournament scenes or battle scenes.

Good question on who should play Rheghar. One of the hemsworth brothers? Doesn't sound right. But you need a good looking believable warrior type.

****disclaimer: I'm only 1/2 way through the last two books (listening to them both at the same time thanks to instructions from the season 6 thread)****

Any chance the two halfs of Ice are put back together, (and used to kill some main character to quench the sword) to make the true Flaming Lightbringer for Jon? As I remember, one is described as having a molten steel look and the other a dark cold... and I know they said that the valerian swords have souls/minds of their own... I'm not sure who has Widows Wail, but Brianne could give Oath-Keeper to Jon when they next meet with Jon protecting Sansa now... let's say Dany snags it from KL on the way to the wall to meet up with Jon, and there you go...

I know Maester Aamond was questioning the validity of thw sword Stanis had because it didn't give off any heat. Maybe the song of ice and fire is the sound of the forging of the two swords back together.

I can picture it now... all the main characters but Jon (and his dragon) die in a battle against the Others, and just as he pulls his newly forged Valerian steel sword out of the White Walker Dany heart, it catches on fire and drives off the Others... Jon hops on his dragon and bounces south, ready for the Sounds of Spring...

Damn I need a hobby.

I'm not sure they have to show any more backstory of Rhaegar. Would be nice but not necessary.

First his parents are already established. But for confirmation of it and to convince others there are many possibilities. Howland reed could show up and confirm it. He was there at the tower even in the show. And there were at least two wet nurses there. Also something could be buried in the crypt that Ned had and put there legitimizing him.

Or it may not matter in the plot just in his ability to ride a dragon. Maybe it only matters to him and Bran telling him is enough.

But still I'd love to see it.

I think it's unlikely the 2 swords are forged back into one. Also, was Joffrey not buried with Widow's Wail? Was it passed on to Tommen?

edit: Just looked it up, according to the song of ice and fire wiki Tommen is now in possesion of the sword.

Googled Rhaegar actor, and when I saw this guy, he looked like Rhaegar to me. Hair needs to be whiter and longer though.

That said, no idea who he is, plus they usually hire British.

Lol that's Alex Pettyfer (sp?). He's def has the looks but is a pretty marginal actor. Think he's Australian. He starred in a few teen flicks (I Am Four, Beast) and had a minor role as a bad guy in In Time.

Okay, so Dany gets that one on the way through KL... Im not one for coming up with wild theories, but...

Yes to purple eyes. Viseryon had them too (in the books).

In the books, Sansa killing LF is all but confirmed.

I dreamt of a maid at a feast with purple serpents in her hair, venom dripping from their fangs. And later I dreamt that maid again, slaying a savage giant in a castle built of snow

This first part references the jeweled hairnet Sansa wore to joffrey and Margaery's marriage. The second part was when she built a snow Winterfell and Robin busted it down with his doll.

Good point. it's possible that he was assigned to take Bran south of the wall to the Night King so it would break the spell on the wall so he doesn't really wish him good fortune in the wars. Since he is undead maybe he switched aligiency. It's also possible he knows who Bran truly is through his interactions with the Children and he knows what is about to happen to Bran.

But yeah, he definitely didn't act like he was truly wishing him good fortune.

That was the previous assumption, but there is nothing preventing that being a red herring to distract from the true prophesy.

If you look back to the prophesy about Ned's execution I believe there is a small line about a giant overseeing the execution. Often this is thought to refer to LF since his family is from Bravos and he is thought to have engineered the reversal of killing Ned instead of sending him to the NW. (Other possibilities include the mountain/Robert strong, and someone else I can't quite remember)

In this case, it might make sense for the giant in this prophesy to also refer to LF

I think it's pretty crucial for casual show-only viewers.

The few I've talked to have no idea who Rhaegar is and think the scene with Ned and Lyanna was Ned and his previous wife and still think Jon is Ned's son.
