Interesting points:
Star Wars owns 4 spots in the Sweet 16, and Spielberg has 3.

Wow, is that right? Are you counting Empire and Jedi as Lucas?

You're right. I don't know what I was thinking.

If we count Lucas/Spielberg as producers though, they have 7 spots.

Star Wars
Empire
Jedi
Jaws
Raiders
BTTF
Saving Private Ryan

Still pretty damn impressive. They own the entire 80's bracket. And Lucas should at least get SOME credit for TFA, right?

Edit: How did I forget Raiders?

So three directors have more than one movie.

I love the movie Alien. Best monster movie ever made, and the second best is not even in the same ballpark. I honestly did not think it would beat out a movie containing the word 'Godfather' and not containing the number '3' in its title.

+1 for Alien

If BTTF beats out Raiders I will be very disappointed in Texags

As will I. And yeah, BTTF is a really great movie, but it is no where near Raiders.

BTTF is a ****ing masterpiece and a classic.

Now, if Hangover beats Gladiator, I WILL have to choke a *****.

Goodfellas vs Shawshank? I liked it better when it was called "Sophie's Choice"

I like a lot of 80s movies.. but I LOVE BTTF!

BTW, the whole trilogy will be on Netflix next month.

Hangover taking out some big names.

And down goes FOTR - snicker - told ya.

BTTF (which I love) has no business taking out Raiders. Shouldn't be close.

These are (mostly) all great films at this point. But the decisions get easier for me.

I didn't really have any doubts when voting between the available options, until I got to Godfather vs Jaws

I dunno. I just couldn't decide

I have no problem if Hangover takes out Gladiator.

Gladiator is great. but I'll sit and watch Hangover again and again anytime.

Tough call - one is certainly better quality, but I'm not sure it is more memorable.

Already disappointed in TexAgs. Then again folks are allowed to like what they like even if they are wrong.

I've seen Hangover probably a dozen times since I last saw Gladiator.

I'm not saying it's a better film though.

Don't get me wrong, I love Hangover and it's pretty memorable. But more memorable than Gladiator? I mean come on.

Are you not entertained?

My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius...

Etc.

I've seen it dozens of times and I never get tired of watching it. And that soundtrack is top notch.

Yeah...back to a thread about to 90s being the best decade....I argued for the 70s.

Tell me which decade has a better final 4 than

Star Wars
Alien
Godfather
Jaws

4 absolutely iconic films and all massive franchises.

None of the 90s final four are part of any franchise. Great standalone films, sure.
Two of the 80s films are sequels to one of those 70s films (SW) the others are a comedy and a fun ride although they were franchises themselves.
The 00's sports an interesting mix of comic book, comedy, one big epic drama and another sequel to that 70s franchise.

I rest my case.

Of course, the 90s don't need a whole decade. Just one year, 1994, would suffice

You could pick any four at random and have a damn good list. The '70s was the most difficult for me to narrow down to five and I cheated counting the two Godfather films as one. Heck you can make a damn good list from films that did not make the cut; The Exorcist, American Graffiti, Young Frankenstein, The Deer Hunter, . . .

Yup, I thought the same thing. The opening battle scene is obviously fantastic, but the rest of the movie is not all that special.

I mean, to be fair, there's plenty of amazing 90's movie that were left off, too. American Beauty, Boogie Nights, The Lion King

Honestly don't understand the love for Jurassic Park. Enjoyable entertainment, excellent F/X but overall that is all it is for me. Maybe it is a generational thing with seeing it as a kid having a much larger impact. For example, as an adult I'll concede that Jaws is a superior film in comparison to Close Encounters but the wow factor of seeing it on the big screen as a kid has just stuck with me so that I still like it more.

Speaking of those movies, I'm honestly surprised at the lack of love for ET. Is it just a nostalgic thing for me? I thought it was a widely beloved film.

ET is one of the few great movies that I could never get into. And I was 3 when it came out so I should love it.
