As a Christian, man this show is sacrilegious!
Even though that guy ended up being an impostor, and they are looking for the real God now? I think it's kind of cool that a show is saying "God exists, but he's just missing" to explain what is going on in the world right now.
*But what I just wrote is the opinion of a fairly non-religious person, so I totally respect what you're saying.
Yeah it's funny cause the show actually has some very Christian values to it as well. Ignoring the video conference with the fake god because the real one is missing... some of the Preachers core values and messages really do speak to what God wants from Christians.
What is really relevant in today's world is how the Preacher, at times, doesn't let his past mistakes (and his current ones) keep him from loving people regardless of who they are or what they've done for us. That is a very key principle in the Bible... "love thy neighbor as thyself". In this case for Preacher his neighbors happen to be a Vampire and a whole town full of messed up people. It's a bit out there, like everything else in this show, but that core value does show up from time to time.
W/out getting too deep and political, I think you could make a case that the show somewhat mirrors the real life American mess right now with different races, sexual orientations, etc. all getting ticked off for one reason or another. None of these groups are perfect by any means, but we'd make a lot more progress if we could just let God be the judge and we spend our time loving/caring for one another!
But generally speaking I think the show is just having a good time with some very bizarre story elements. I don't think they are purposely sending messages one way or another.
