Thanks to BBC America, I watch it more now than I did during the first run.

I'm not sure there was another show that had such a mix of terrible moments and great moments. I don't think I'd ever intentionally marathon watch it, but there are times when I can leave the TV on BBC America for hours during a TNG run.

My buddy and I wrote a treatment for a Star Trek fan film(they are huge right now check out Axanar) which takes place 5 years after Nemesis. It dealt with Ambassador Worf tying up the loose ends with Toral and Sela. Unfortunately Michael Dorn announced crowd funding for his pilot so we scrapped it.

On a serious note, there is a TV trope actually named after TNG... it is essentially the opposite of Jumping the Shark and is named "Growing the Beard"

Essentially, it means the show got better once Riker grew the beard. The first two seasons were dominated by Gene Roddenberry's vision and apparently he was very difficult to work with.

the only episodes you should watch in the first 2 seasons is the pilot Encounter at Farpoint. Just to see things introduced, Q, and to see Troi in the cheerleader outfit.

Note Troi to me is the best female character in all of the shows. Better than 7 of 9, Dax, and to'pol.

By best do you mean hottest? If so, I gotta go with T'Pol.

Regarding Trek female characters, I have always loved the story about how Whoopi Goldberg ended up playing Guinan in TNG. She was already well known because of The Color Purple. Turns out she became a big Star Trek fan as a kid because she admired Nichelle Nichols in the groundbreaking role of Uhura. She asked Roddenberry directly for a role in TNG. At first they thought she was joking, but when it turned out she was serious, they rewrote the Guinan role for her.

She actually asked LeVar Burton to help her get the role. After a year, she asked him about it and he said "They didn't believe me", so he got her in touch directly with Roddenberry.

She was great as Guinan.

Just cast Richard Riehle in my movie. Riehle played Batai in the TNG The Inner Light which is one of my top 5 favorite Star Trek episodes.

Also cast Daniel Hugh Kelly who was Sojef in Star Trek: Insurrection.

He's a people person.

He was so whiny!

How I always saw Kim:

He was an equivalent to a backseat toddler crying "are we there yet?" every damn episode. Just once I wanted Torres to give him a stern head butt and to tell him to stop whining like a little b.

He did technically die in one episode, semester Voyager was split in two.
