Frances Ha was one of my favorite movies of 2012, and Noah Baumbach's follow-up, While We're Young, essentially looks to be its spiritual cousin of sorts, which I am more than okay with. In fact, if I didn't check to see his differing character names on IMDb, I would have thought Adam Driver is playing the same role here as he did in Baumbach's last effort. To that point, these may be completely different characters, and an entirely different story, but Baumbach's light, spot-on mockery of 20-something hipsters looks to be on full display here, even more so than in Frances Ha.In that movie, Frances interacting with Lev (Driver) and his roommate made for some of its funniest parts, and that basic conceit looks to be expanded into an entire film here, which I absolutely love. The beachball bit in the trailer, especially, kills me. Definitely looking forward to this one.

From A24, While We're Young hits theaters in limited release on March 27, 2015.

Looks great, you failed to mention Charles Grodin and Ad Rock from the mother ****ing Beastie Boys are in this thing, two huge selling points. I'm in.

As someone who is about to turn 40 in 2 days who has two children under 2 this looks somewhat interesting to me.

Charles Grodin was never in the Beastie Boys.

Looks intriguing. I do have a minor quibble with you saying that he was mocking hipsters. I thought it was a genuine and very accurate portrayal of life as a 20something living in NYC in this specific time period. The film never felt like it had a mocking tone to me, but that it capture different groups of people having different levels of success at that time of their life. Anyways, just a thought I wanted to offer.

I don't think you can show Hipsters at all without somewhat mocking them

^ Exactly. I obviously haven't seen the movie, and I assume you have, Quinn? I know its already screened a lot at festivals. Still, the VHS watching, the organic ice cream making, the typewriting, their clothes, the beachball/"I love you" bit, and their apartment in general are all definitely being "highlighted" - if not subtly mocked - in the trailer. Baumbach isn't outright pointing and laughing at them, but he's definitely giving a nod to the slight absurdity of it all. Exact same thing he did in Frances Ha.

No need for the sarcastic comment - of course I haven't seen it. I was only offering up my opinion on Frances Ha, one of my favorite films last year and one I know you really enjoyed too. Besides, I think it just comes down to how we interpret "mocked". I think of mocked as a harsh, rude term, whereas I found the portrayal of "hipsters" (aka anyone age 17-29 living in New York) to be realistic and fun. This movie looks to have the same type of tone as you noted, I would just use different semantics to describe it.

Wasn't being sarcastic at all. I was literally assuming you've seen it. The way you phrased your post, that's exactly what it sounded like. There was no indication you were talking about Frances Ha, and While We're Young really has been screening all over the place. Sorry for the confusion. And yeah, I see exactly where you're coming from.
