Genuinely curious, you find the critic score on RT to be a better indicator than audience score?

I read the wiki plot recap of Shazam 2 (as I often do for movies I don't plan to see), and it sounds like it has post credit scenes teasing future movies, as comic movies often do

But… aren't they about to abandon the Snyderverse so Gunn can create something new?

But I suppose Gunn did say some actors may stick around?

My level of confidence in this not becoming a confusing mess is low.
Up till the apparent cameo in this one it's existed pretty independently of the other older films, it would probably be the easiest to keep around. Although maybe not if the opening weekend numbers are accurate.

I should say, one of the post credit scenes gives me a little hope that it may stick around

Whether he's right or not this is hilarious.

Ive seen one ad for this Shazam movie. They specifically say something about all of the surprises in the movie and then immediately show the surprise cameo character right after that.

That tells me it's in trouble.

Depends on the film. Some of them are bombed into oblivion or arbitrarily supported because of politics, franchise loyalty, etc.

Saw it yesterday in a fully booked XD theater. It was good. Nothing great but I wasn't expecting that. I had fun with the family on a Saturday afternoon. That's all I wanted and I got that. I think sometimes we criticize just to criticize. It's a popcorn flick. Enjoy it for what it is and move on.

Yeah, I'll still for sure watch it on streaming.

I wonder if it's because the great ones have raised expectations. The ones that shock, or move you emotionally, or leave you excited for a new future that you didn't anticipate going in.

If a new film came out and you told me in advance "it's a fun little ride but it's more of the same," then I'd probably skip it until streaming. We get about 8 of these a year so the brainless entertainment aspect has gotten pretty old. (That said, once my son is born, low stakes and easy entertainment might be all I'm willing to take!)

Same, saving my going to the movies by myself card for John Wick next weekend.

There is already much precedence and even a tradition to recast Superman and Batman. And that was pre-multiverse.

If those two can be recast, anyone can.

Sounds like the Rock mostly just cares about the Dwayne-Verse. Not that it mattered. Unless that movie had made $300m+ US it was one and done.

It would make way more sense to include Shazam than Supes.

I'm just laughing at his huge ego. Not criticizing or hating.

He's got an ego and his fans are… different. Great that he's doing it for charity, though.

Just saw the new Shazam with my kids. I thought it was fun and a great "junior-level" type comic book movie. Everything just a little bit less severe and gentler.

I'd go see another one with them. Zachary Levi gets a little old with the teenager persona but it's tolerable. In a crossover movie he would bring the "Tom Holland" energy.

Was just looking around for the Shazam thread. Guess this is it. I liked it. They focused more on Freddy which was a good idea. And that older sister has gotten much hotter. She has a few Alexandra Daddario qualities.

Grace Randolph has to be one of the dumbest people in all of entertainment media. Why does she *keep* doing this to herself? Is she making so much ad money from rubes on YouTube that it simply doesn't matter how many lies she's tells? Still, how can anyone be stupid enough to keep listening to her, when she's proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that she's a con artist/has no f-ing clue what she's talking about?

Not only a liar but a shameless attention hoar and just downright annoying as all hell.

I wish her nothing but awful things in her career.

Having said that, somebody explain to me why a STUDIO HEAD is still getting into Twitter feuds with literal nobodies.
TCTTS

I think it's double-sided. Pieces of sh*t like Grace Randolph and Doomcock *do* cause a ton of headaches for studios, because the crap they spew spreads like wildfire and then their filmmakers and actors are endlessly harassed because of it. So I understand Gunn wanting to hazmat up, wade into the muck, and torch some of these parasites. That said, if filmmakers, studios, and corporations in general would simply learn to ignore the worst of social media - lies and harassment alike - and treat it as the echo chamber that it is, making up only a tiny percentage of its actual viewing audience/customers, they'd realize that it doesn't matter how much the lies spread on social media, it's not enough to actually affect the box office.

I always forget how heavily DC leans on aliens for their mythos. Which is fine. Marvel really hit on something when they came up with Mutants as a way to ground characters be a use they're just "born that way" and don't require their characters to have fantastic origins.

Doesn't the entire Infinity Saga hinge on aliens / alien tech?
