He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
Now now, we're not allowed to say all of that bolded part. Reference Superman Returns for proof, where it was stated as truth, justice, and all that stuff.

Come on people! You have to get on board this anti-America thing that is all the rage these days!

I don't think there *should* be much difference between Clark and Superman.

Are you talking about Smallville Clark or Daily Planet Clark?

To me, the essence of this character is Smallville Clark Kent. More than Daily Planet Clark, more than Kal El, even more than Superman.

You should be able to see Smallville Clark in every iteration of his identity.

I hope this is Gunn's vision as well.

In Man of Steel, he's Clark trying to figure out his way in the world until the exact moment he puts the suit on. Then he becomes Superman.

I keep thinking the best depiction of Superman's character of Truth, Justice, the American Way; fighting for the right thing, even if the right thing is ambiguous; being a boy scout; being a man with small town morals in a immoral world was done by MCU's Captain America. So many things he did and said in those movies were exactly what Superman should be. The jokes against Captain America were the exact joke that would work with Superman.

Also, why would Gunn release this huge Superman news bomb at the same time the new Shazam movie is premiering?
The conspiracy theory person in me would suspect he's trying to bury a bad movie, or bury the movie from the previous regime.

I believe that he is Clark Kent at all times. Superman is what he does.

Superman is who he is. Clark Kent is the costume.

LOL I get it (love this monologue by the way), but this guy is talking about Daily Planet Clark as the weakling, not Smallville Clark. In my mind Smallville Clark is nowhere near a weakling.

I do understand how so many have this viewpoint and it's cool how this character can be different things to different people.

While this is a classic monologue, bringing up Bruce Wayne is kind of a miss. Bruce Wayne started off as the person, but over time has become the character that Batman plays to fit in with the rest of society.

Ben Affleck not interested in directing a DC film in Gunn's universe.

So if DC came to you now and said, "Do you want to direct something?"

I would not direct something for the [James] Gunn DC. Absolutely not. I have nothing against James Gunn. Nice guy, sure he's going to do a great job. I just wouldn't want to go in and direct in the way they're doing that. I'm not interested in that.

Also, really liked this quote.
Quote:

But not Justice League. What went wrong there?

Justice League … You could teach a seminar on all the reasons why this is how not to do it. Ranging from production to bad decisions to horrible personal tragedy, and just ending with the most monstrous taste in my mouth. The genius, and the silver lining, is that Zack Snyder eventually went to AT&T and was like, "Look, I can get you four hours of content." And it's principally just all the slow motion that he shot in black-and-white. And one day of shooting with me and him. He was like, "Do you want to come shoot in my backyard?" I was like, "I think there are unions, Zack. I think we have to make a deal." But I went and did it. And now [Zack Snyder's Justice League] is my highest-rated movie on IMDb.

He needs to look again.

Good Will Hunting is rated higher.

Great read overall, but you missed the actual important part of anything he said

Quote:

The Justice League experience, the fact that those stories became somewhat repetitive to me and less interesting. Yeah, I did finally figure out how to play that character [Batman], and I nailed it in The Flash. For the five minutes I'm there, it's really great. A lot of it's just tone. You've got to figure out, what's your version of the person? Who is the guy that fits what you can do? I tried to fit myself into a Batman. And by the way, I like a lot of the stuff we did, especially the first one [Batman v Superman].

That said, his quote previous to the not directing comments sound like maybe he's just over superhero movies moreso than anything in particular that DC is doing now?

I read it that he didn't think Gunn would give him the level of control he'd want while directing.

Yeah, could be. I'd have to think Gunn would hire him to let him do what he does, but we also don't need another Batman director right now.

I have a feeling this is going to be something special, and I can't wait.

(And then we get The Batman: Part II four months later, and then the first Star Ears movie in six years, two months after that.)

Just fyi

Star Ears > Stargate > Star Trek >>>> Star wars

Shazam 2 was super fun, and approximately 67 times better than Quantumania.

Great Skittles commercial, too.

This is increasingly feeling like the movie of the summer.

Then again, so many other potential candidates could also end up staking that claim, and that's what makes this coming summer so damn fun.

The trailer got the (admittedly small) crowd at Shazam excited last night. Very palpable. Overheard one guy say it looks so much better than Multiverse of Madness.

What's it say about DC and Shazam that Fury of the Gods came out today and there isn't even an official thread with an appropriate number of *** in the title on Texags?

It's worth it. I actually found the second one to be much more entertaining. It's silly at times, but it's a comic book movie about a kid's adult wish fulfillment fantasy and magic. Legitimately funny too.

I read the wiki plot recap of Shazam 2 (as I often do for movies I don't plan to see), and it sounds like it has post credit scenes teasing future movies, as comic movies often do

But… aren't they about to abandon the Snyderverse so Gunn can create something new?

But I suppose Gunn did say some actors may stick around?

My level of confidence in this not becoming a confusing mess is low.

I can't figure it out either, but it sounds like The Flash *might* be used - via the multiverse - to retool/reboot a number of the characters, but not all of them.

Man, I had a blast at Shazam 2

I have no idea what the future plans are or aren't, but I frankly think Gunn would be insane to abandon this property as currently constituted.

Oof. $30M opening weekend projected for Shazam. Brutal.

Personally I think this deserved better than that. It also feels like WB didn't put a whole lot into marketing.

They actually did the opposite of marketing for it and openly hinted that everything in this movie would be irrelevant to the story going forward.

Which is why I think it's fair to question whether any of those guys know what they're doing
