Michelle MacLaren has been chosen as director for Wonder Woman.

Has some street cred for directing some good episodes of Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. I believe this is her first theatrical picture, hopefully the jump won't be too much.

And Zack Snyder is producing and will probably be heavily involved, so I expect the visuals to remain "Snyder-esque."

There's also a number of confirmations that make me extremely concerned. Not only will Wonder Woman be in the movie (which we knew) but apparently so is Flash, KGBeast, and apparently Joker will at a minimum be referenced in some way as already established. The thing that surprised me the most is that Doomsday is going to be in it in some capacity? You only bring Doomsday in for one reason, so I don't really get that.

This movie is getting full.

Will Smith has been cast as Deadshot in Suicide Squad, as well as Robbie as Harley Quinn. Glad to see that Will Smith as Captain Boomerang rumor was not true. Jai Courtney has been cast as Captain Boomerang.

I never once thought they'd actually secure this cast. Well, WB just proved me wrong by making it official. Wow...

Yeah, pretty impressed they were able to secure this cast, and it seems they have everyone casted in their best possible roles. With David Ayer directing and writing, this movie should be good, I hope the lack of knowledge around Suicide Squad will not dampen its success. I will say this is something WB is doing that is unique in the superhero movie world, and they are putting their best foot forward on this project.

Agreed. I mean, this cast has far more star wattage than even Batman v Superman, which is insane. Audiences will show up in droves, no doubt.

I wonder if Will Smith playing Deadshot is reactionary to some of the criticism he took for not taking Django and always playing the safe, friendly, typical Will Smith roles. I don't know a lot about Deadshot, but I do know he's a hitman, and essentially a bad guy so it will be interesting to see what kind of character he is in this movie.

The Will Smith/Jai Courtney role reversal rumors were always really stupid.

Who is Rick Flagg? I thought Deadshot was the leader?

Think Leto has the opportunity to be a really awesome Joker. Harley Quinn will be interesting to see on screen as well. I'm guessing she will be one of the sexiest characters we've seen in a long, long time.

Despire all the criticism for DC so far, this is going to be a huge, huge movie and with Ayer directing I am really pumped.

This is the only thing that confuses me, unless WB/DC is attempting to upend Marvel in the Villains department. Rick Flagg is the original leader of the Suicide Squad I believe, I think the movie didn't really need him, and it makes me wonder if they are planning to kill off Rick Flagg in the movie, which seems like that would be a waste of Tom Hardy.

That being said, I'm excited for the movie, as long as it's a strong PG-13 (I know they'll never do it as an R, unfortunately).

I'm wondering if any of this is indicative of the quality of BvS? If that movie fails, it'll have a domino effect and this whole universe/plan will come tumbling down. I wonder if someone like Smith would have signed on without some kind "proof" that BvS is going to work? Then again, Smith hasn't had a huge hit in forever, so maybe he would have signed regardless. Either way, WB has to be confident to follow it up with something as ambitious as this.

Also, I really, really hope Joker is not actually a member of the Squad, but rather an important side story in the movie.

Good question TC. The guy is getting paid, and no doubt BvS is going to make some money... but can you imagine the pressure that's on Zack Snyder right now?

Can anyone give a quick synopsis of these characters?

If you guys get a shot, check out the suicide squad animated movie (Batman:Assault on Arkham) on Amazon Prime. It was my first experience with Suicide Squad and was very entertaining. I didn't believe my buddy and thought I was going to be wasting my night, but I didn't. This has Kevin Conroy as Batman and Troy Baker with an amazing recreation of Mark Hamill's Joker voice.

Not all of the characters are the same, but here is a trailer. It gives you an idea of what to expect out of a bunch of villains working together.

I'm pumped for this one. David Ayer, that cast, and that premise is very promising. Definitely more excited for this than BvS, and I'm sure many others will be. The casting is just smart, very smart. To have this as the first spin-off/extension of the Batman/Superman world (which is what most think of DC as) it will definitely, from a marketing standpoint, benefit to have those four strong actors involved.

I can see this bring back Will Smith as a box-office guarantee too, which he hasn't been in a while and nearly butchered with After Earth. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear some news about Bad Boys 3 in the coming months, too (understanding that that is under Sony, not WB).

They would have cast Sean Bean if that was the case.

I seriously doubt this happens, but how crazy would it be if Suicide Squad somehow has a bigger opening weekend than BvS? Not only can Smith in a role like this pull in a huge audience, but having the first post-Ledger Joker will be an enormous selling point as well. I'm just saying, if Guardians of Galaxy can do $90M+ in one weekend, so can this, especially with this cast. BvS will do $100M+ opening weekend, no doubt, but the two might be closer than we think.

Also, just FYI, I'll get some Bad Boys 3 info this weekend. Meeting up with a good friend who works at Bruckheimer, and he always gives me the latest rundown on all their projects. Will post if I can.

I give this a solid "meh." I'm intrigued by Leto as the Joker, but that's all that stands out for me. What's really souring it for me is the Variety article (I think) saying that their number one choice for Waller is Oprah.

Ha, but man that's such a spot on casting decision. It's almost too easy. It'd be cool to see Oprah be a giant hardass.

Agreed. As much as I ignore everything about her, Oprah in a movie like this would be kind of amazing.

Hmm... Well the Batcave is usually portrayed as also a defacto trophy room. So I'm guessing that all of these guys will supposedly have already been put away by Batman. Remember he's an older and already established hero in this movie.

So you'll probably get cool little teasers like a boomerang and Deadshot's laser sight in glass cases. Hinting that he's already defeated them individually and they are currently in prison/Arkham.

I have "Suicide Squad" on my desk, and Oprah as badass ex special forces type doesn't work for me.

Maybe if they reward the ones that come back from the mission with brand new cars?

Oprah would actually be kind of amazing in that role. She showed she can be a bit crazy in The Butler. She could be an incredible Waller if she goes full on cold, hardass. Waller is someone who can stand face to face to Batman and not flinch at all.

Or they could get cch pounder who already voiced her in the animated stuff and has had other live action roles where she plays a government hard ass.

While it would be interesting to see Oprah in the role. I would prefer Octavia Spencer. Anybody else considered for the role.

Based on the opening dates alone, I don't think that is that crazy of a notion.
