she looks constipated in nearly every scene. my guess is she tried having an accent, and the producers realized how awful it was, to go along with her terrible acting...and they said, eff it, just do whatever you feel comfortable with. turrible

This is based on the original Broadway version, not the movie, so there will be differences. They aren't trying to remake the movie. I think it's good considering it's a live tv event, but agree Underwood sucks at acting and her non singing parts are a bit tough to watch.

And she should not try to act. At least train for a British accent...

You realize Maria Von Trapp was Austrian right?

Right...cause Julie Andrews used an Austrian accent.

Just don't speak Oklahoman is my point.

Yeah Carrie Underwood's acting made this pretty unwatchable. We caught a few minutes and any time she was in the scene it was just brutal. The scene where she returned after the captain told the kids he was engaged it was fine until she stopped singing.

Was Anne Hathaway busy tonight or something?

Maybe this Maria is from southern Austria

CU seems as if she's in the middle of a high school production until she sings. I just can't get past her acting. It's just ruining everything else.

Stage and film are just two different things and stuff like this never works. I saw one of those shows from the Met that they were playing in theatres and even that was absolutely awful.

This just shows you how good those folks are that can both sing and act. The gal that was the lead in Mama Mia could have killed in this role.

I wonder if they did it live to avoid letting critics review it?

No, they could just not give them a copy if they didn't want them to see it in advance.

They did it live as a gimmick and to justify shooting in a jr high auditorium instead of on location or sound stages that cost real money.

I'm watching till the end. I'm hoping the captain turns Hitler into a vampire. Imagine the sequel.

She is doing well for this being her first theater production. I don't see why everyone is complaining. Since they wanted a conventional singer, who else could you possibly choose?

Who else could they choose? Are you really saying the talent pool for "conventional singers" with acting skill is that shallow?

A lack of experience is no excuse for how bad her acting was. It might work if this was a reality show about a singer who is trying to learn to act, but it doesn't change the fact she is doing a terrible job. If I managed to get my fat ass out there and failed miserably, would you have defended me the same way? I have even less experience, so I would expect you to defend me even more.

I'll allow that she may be the most talented vocalist they could get, but the production could have been vastly improved by casting someone that was a step below in the vocal department, but had a high school theater level of acting experience.

My real estate agent could have done a better job.

So...y'all are saying I should just free up the space on the DVR I used rather than watch?

My girl's family has German ancestry so I have watched the original Sound Of Music with them few times over the Christmas holidays. They were appalled by that **** on NBC. I was laughing at their reactions until they finally turned it off after about 30 minutes.

NBC’s big winter gamble paid off: The Sound of Music Live! delivered a massive audience Thursday night.
The three-hour performance of the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein musical delivered 18.5 million viewers and a great 4.6 rating among adults 18-49. This is by far NBC’s strongest non-sports Thursday night performance this season; the network had had all sorts of ratings headaches on Thursdays this fall given its troubled comedy block. Sound of Music was Thursday’s most-watched show last night and tied CBS’ Big Bang Theory in the demo to win the night.
While skepticism about NBC’s Sound of Music stunt ran high leading up to the show, viewers were generally enthusiastic about last night’s performance, which went off without a hitch.

It wasn't as terrible as TA made it out to be. I didn't watch much, but it was better than seeing the Texans lose to Jacksonville AGAIN.

The woman who played the Countess was excellent. She is much better than the person who played the role in the movie. I also liked that they kept the song in the theater version (but cut in the movie) that she and Max sing about getting along with the Nazis.

The Captain did a fine job on Edelweiss.

But Underwood was just so bad, I don't think I could bear to watch it again.

I didn't see the production, but someone was asking who else could have done this?

Emmy Rossum. She played Christine in "Phantom of the Opera" at 18-19 in the movie production.

She has a phenomenal voice and can actually act.

Didn't watch it, but it couldn't be more entertaining that reading this thread full of typical TexAg responses and panty-bunching going on.

This place never fails to entertain with the constant whining and *****ing over EVERYTHING.
