Quantum may well end up being the most forgotten Bond film of all time. It was a bad movie, but not horrifically bad, say, on the scale of Die Another Day. It was bookended by Casino, one of the best, and Skyfall, which was pretty good. If the next one is good, Quantum will only be remembered as a weird WTF moment, and then only by the big fans.
What I don't get is how horrid the Brosnan Bond era was allowed to become. I may get lynched here for saying it, but I prefer Goldeneye to Casino. Brosnan started out as strong as Craig in terms of the quality of their debut (Funny thing, those films had the same director....) they just fell waaaaay off from there.
I agree that some of the camp of the Roger Moore era actually works well on re-viewing years later. They didn't take themselves too seriously, so they don't prompt your scorn either. The latter two Brosnan flicks did take themselves pretty seriously, but to me weren't even funny in caricature. It's sort of like Plan 9 From Outer Space - that's supposedly the worst movie ever, but it's actually hilarious, so it is in fact not the worst ever. The worst ever is trying to be serious and failing to fail in even a humorous way.
Moonraker has great locations and an outlandish outer space plot, plus Moore, who played the whole role with a smirk and a wink. It's not a good movie, but I can't call it the worst because the actor wasn't mega-serious and the plot was so over the top it feels like it was intentional camp to some extent. To me that has some entertainment value.
