Does it ever pick up? I mean it's interesting and all, but it's almost all dialog. I'm only six episodes in, so should I stay tuned?

Just so you mad men fanboys don't get your panties in a bunch, I'm not saying I dislike it so far. I'm just saying I'm ready for something substantial to happen with the story.

Have never understood why some tend to think "all dialogue" = nothing happening. Not knocking you or anything - it's great that you're even giving it a shot - just know that it's a show about CHARACTER, not plot. Yes, substantial, awesome, heartbreaking things do occur. Though, overall, it's meant to be watched more for the character development/interaction, dialogue, social critique, etc. than for weekly plot developments. But yes, I promise you, sh*t does go down, increasingly so as the series progresses, particularly in seasons three and four. Trust me, it's worth it. Later half of season one is when things finally start to snowball, then it slowly builds from there...

I'm exactly where the OP is. Was wondering the same thing. Boy is thus show dirty though. Feel the need to shower after watching it.

TCTTS- Thanks for helping me grasp the concept. I look forward to learning more about Don Draper as the story progresses. I suppose this first season is sort of laying the foundations?

And PhiAggie, I'm right there with you. Draper is a bad man. But at the same time, you feel for him. He cares about his family, and does care for his wife, it seems.

It's a great show, but it's hard to watch more than one or two episodes at a time. It's not a good show to try to catch up on.

If you're not hooked on the show after 6 episodes then you may never get into it. But at least before you bail skip ahead to the last 2 episodes of season 1.

****Minor spoliers ahead****

There's a great confrontation scene in episode 12 that's about as exciting/tense as it gets and they reveal the biggest plot point of the Don Draper secret backstory. Then episode 13 has the Carousel scene which is one of the defining scenes of the series and vaults Jon Hamm into the acting stratosphere

OP, I was in same boat. I forced half through 1.5 seasons and gave up. My Wife went further and got through 2.5 seasoms and gave up. Sounds like you could do the same now and quit while you're ahead.

I'm 3 episodes in and enjoy it but it doesn't leave me dying to watch the next episode like BB, walking dead, GOT, etc...

I think the show is really good, but it’s not the most entertaining show. 24, for example, I didn’t watch while it was on TV… caught it later on Netflix. It was impossible to turn off the show for me. Mad Men is a show I really enjoy, but I had no problem walking away from it for a few days or weeks when watching on Netflix/BD. Mad Men is also pretty depressing at points (though not near as depressing as S1 of the Killing was), so you have to walk away at various points.

The show isn't for everyone. If you're not entrenched in the show and have a "relationship" with at least a few of the characters after six episodes, it's probably not your thing. Plenty of other shows to keep you entertained.

**spoilers**

There are a couple scenes where people get punched. Then some guy gets his foot cut off by a lawnmower.

That's about it for excitement.
