SPOILERS

OK...so I finally got around to watching the Dexter series. I started with Season 1 about 3 weeks ago and just finished Season 4 this weekend. Up until the Season 4 Finale I really enjoyed this series. Then all of the sudden Dexter comes home to find his wife dead taking a blood bath! WTF!

Rita was one of my favorite characters in the show. She really balanced out Dexter. To imagine all she went through with Arthur and his sickness is awful.

Maybe I missed something. Dexter sends her off in a taxi on the way to Key West. When Dexter gets back to the house he gets a voice mail from Rita and I didn't catch everything she said. Then the nightmare begins. I was shocked to say the least.

I don't know if I am going to watch any more of this series. I don't understand why they had to kill Rita.

Yeah definitely one of the biggest jaw droppers in tv history, at least that I've seen.

Is Dexter even worth watching after Season 4?

I would say no. It what world does deb live and Rita die?

I still watch Dexter and still enjoy it, but no none of the seasons are as good as 4, 1 or 3.

That was one of the best season finales I've ever seen.

5 was a definite drop off, IMO. Still followed the whole season but not with as much interest. Lost track of it somewhere in Season 6. Although the Season 6 premier was worth watching because of Kristen Miller.

it's still worth watching, but it doesn't ever get that good again. the season 4 finale was one of the craziest moments of any show I've ever seen. 3 was kinda weak at times, but 1, 2, and 4 made Dexter one of the best shows on TV.

probably the biggest shocker in any tv show ive watched, and it was spoiled for me before i saw it. Oh well.

OP, you do realize that rita was leaving the show for another gig dont you?

Today I learned that some people actually DIDN'T hate Rita.

She is probably top 3 all time worst TV drama characters for me. Up there with Catelyn Stark.

Old Main I always had so much love and respect for you until now. How could you like Rita? No one likes Rita. I was so glad they killed her off.

Now if only they'd ax Deb. I absolutely hate her character. Hell I'd rather have Rita still on rather than Deb so that should tell you something. BTW I haven't watched any of the new season so no spoilers. Gotta wait until they release the whole season.

Rita didn't bother me so much. At least she was attractive. Deb, though... my god. Nails on a chalkboard. Every. Scene. She's in. I beseech you, dark passenger: save the series and take that monster out!

I find it extremely hilarious anyone on the eboard respected Old Main.

no character on dexter is as bad as tara and the kids on SOA.

over half the characters on walking dead are just as bad or worse.

I watched that how hating all the female characters.

Still love the series, but I think it peaked during season 4.

Season 5 was meh, but I thought season 6 and 7 were pretty good.

My favorite seasons are tiered and ordered as follows:

Season 5 sucked.

Don't waste your time on 5-7.

Or at least wait until after the final season to see if they redeem themselves at all.

i hate, hate, hate everything about this character in the book in the show and the actress that plays her in the show.

I'm done with Dexter.

I did not watch the series when it first came out nor did I know that the actress playing Rita was planning to leave the series after Season 4... that makes killing her off a little (very little) more tolerable.

The reason I was pissed is because Deter was a first rate show and they jumped the shark when they had Arthur kill her with that horrible bathtub ritual. Maybe I missed something, but this came completely out of the blue. How did Arthur find her? When did Arthur do this? I think Arthur's character would have revealed this to Dexter when he was on the killing table. Sorry, I just don't buy it.

There were other ways to write Rita out of the show. If half of all marriages end in divorce it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that Rita got tired of being married to a guy who is rarely home late at night. Maybe she finds out that he is a serial killer and this leads to a big fight. Can you imagine that confrontation? That would have been interesting.

Divorce would have been boring. And dexter needs to suffer for his actions to mold his character.

Also, Rita dying was spoiled for me in a forum topic about Big Love. I may have felt different if I didn't know it was coming.

The Rita death was the best shocker I have ever seen on TV.

I loved seasons 1&2, and hung-on for seasons 3&4. The Rita death made me want to watch the first few episodes of S5, then I was done after that. I honestly think 'Deb' is the worst character I have ever seen on television.

I watched seasons 3-6 in a 2 week span when I lived out of town for work for 2 months. 4 is my second favorite season behind 1. But I think 4 was probably the most exciting. After the finale I was SO disappointed by 5. I almost didn't watch anymore, but this board highly recommended 6. I thought 6 really redeemed the series. EJO and Colin Hanks were really great. I'm waiting for 7 to come out on dvd. Don't give up on the show yet. 5 was hard to stomach, but I thought some of Dex's emotional realizations in the first few episodes were very character developing. And I enjoyed Brian's return.

Might make the push through Season 5 then if 6 is worth it. Perhaps I could just read a summary on Season 5 and just get started with 6.
