REK confirms that "The Road Goes On and On" was, in fact, a shot at Toby Keith. Apparently (and I had never heard Keith's song, those was news to me), REK is fairly certain that Keith's "Bullets in the Gun" has a melody ripped off from REK's seminal "The Road Goes On Forever."

Huh? How does a lackluster (in your opinion) new album render the rest of REK's career irrelevant? Do you also judge Merle Haggard or George Strait solely by their most recent album?

i'm a huge fan of both REK and Merle F Haggard, and haggard is absolutely irrelevant now. his best stuff was from a window starting 50 yrs ago, and ending about 25 yrs ago.

mr keen, who i have seen live 20+ times and absolutely love, looks bitter and foolish here. after all, he is the guy who has put "the road goes on forever" onto album after album after album. he is also guilty of putting aside his integrity for a money grab terrible sequel to "merry xmas from the family".

wow. i've defended TK on here in the past, solely for his work with our troops in the middle east, but that's a BLATANT rip-off.

And to the other poster, there's a lot of people that really like Ready for Confetti. Hell, Black Baldy Stallion is one of my favorite REK songs.

it isnt "bitter and foolish" to take offense. he is certainly allowed to be offended. he should also take legal action if he can prove that the no talent ass clown ripped off his song.
but it looks petty that he wants to pretend to be about artistic integrity when he has flipped the bird to his loyal fans several times by putting his biggest hit on at least 3 different albums (probably 4 or 5), and has trotted out a sad attempt at a sequel to "merry christmas to the family" with "Happy Holidays Y'all".

Different version on the two studio albums, the third was a greatest hits and any others are live so I'm really failing to see how that is flipping the bird to his fans. You act like he's just redoing the same album over and over. As for the sequel stuff, also not seeing how that is in any way offensive. It seems pretty clear that he's taking a shot at Toby Keith for not writing and stealing. I don't see how that relates to Keen's use of a song he wrote.

My mom just texted me to see if I had heard this song and if I haven't, I should download it.

He released an extended version of a song. That's so far from flipping the fans the bird it's not even funny. The only other albums it's one are greatest hits or live albums and it should most definitely be on albums of those kind. And no the point is not to defend him at all costs. That's just a ridiculous thing to claim is giving the fans the bird.

I haven't bought a CD in god knows how long, but do they not still have the track listings on the back?

If so, how was anyone screwed over by The Road Goes On Forever being included on multiple greatest hits albums? If you don't want it, don't buy it... and in the Internet age, aren't we all picking and choosing which songs we buy for 99 cents anyways?

Writing a song about how another artist ripped you or another artist off I think is a great way of handling things... "he should also take legal action" -- isn't that what we rag on just about every artist for doing in any situation?

I enjoy a little REK and TK from time to time. Unfortunately, that is a blatent rip-off by Toby Keith. He does a lot of good things for the country, so I hate to see him sink to this level.

Toby Keith is entertaining, but he he's not afraid of reaching pretty low to sell a record. He's definitely uses pop music mentality to sell country music. He's got a little Billy Ray Cyrus in his blood. Does Toby have a hot daughter to sell?

Ahh, music snobs... (on both sides)

I don't get a chance to listen to much music these days....just youtubed the Red Solo Cup song. Gotta admit....(and yes this probably lands me in doooooshville), I smiled while listening to it and thought the video (unedited version) was entertaining. I'd probably get pretty bored with it if I heard it again, but it was decent the first time through.


On a seperate note....that song is a total rip off and REK has every right to take him to the cleaners any way he sees fit.
