WRONG. Silverado is not the real deal. The 70mm imax in houston? There is only 1. Edwards MarqE is the only true imax in houston. 100% confirmed

Do you even know what IMAX is? Silverado may not have the biggest IMAX screen in Houston, but it's still IMAX.

Trust me ring. You obviously dont know what this thread is about. There a "real" and "fake" imax. One is 70mm...the other is a digital projection imax. Real imax isnt digital.

Nor does the kmage go taller than wider, and take up full frame.

Do a quick google search

Ring i suggest you do a little digging

to the OP, here is a list of IMAX theaters in the US

http://lfexaminer.com/theaUSA.htm

True or "real" imax are the 70mm ones- they are identified as "1570". Silverado isn't listed, however it appears to not be the 70mm

quote:
Houston AMC Gulf Pointe 30 IMAX D 3D F 463 10/10/2008
Houston Edwards Houston Marq*e 23 & IMAX IMAX 1570 3D F 409 4/11/2003 4/11/2003
Houston Houston Museum of Natural Science IMAX 1570 3D F 395 9/15/1989
Houston Space Center Houston BARCI D 2D F 420 2002 12/31/2002
Lubbock Science Spectrum CDC 1570 2D D 186 12/25/2003 12/25/2003

However, there are conflicting reports about Silverado.

Personally, in being in that theater, it is not the full frame IMAX. also, the dark knight rises prologue was shown in front of true IMAX theaters. WB released a press release on the full theater listing:

huge difference. Silverado showed the trailer, same one found here

http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/wb/thedarkknightrises/

MarqE showed the first 6 mins of the movie, plus a mashup of other shots of the movie. Some in the trailer, some now.

there were certain scenes shot in the movie that went full frame. ie...when those scenes were not playing, you had the 35mm standard frame, so black bars were at the top and bottom.

the scenes included were: the kremlin explosion, the dubai scene, and the parking garage in india. as well as a few others. when these scenes started the image on the screen was taller than it was wider, and the full IMAX projection was used. when the scenes were finished, it went back to a standard movie frame, and since the IMAX cinema screen is built to be taller than it is wider, hence the black bars much like a 16:9 aspect ratio widescreen DVD on a standard television.

you never noticed black bars because Silverado is not a true IMAX. that's the point im trying to make.

also, the AMC won't have black bars or be full IMAX either.

the Wortham center at the museum, and Edwards MarqE are the only two full IMAX screens in Houston.

So true IMAX would have the black bars?

just save yourself the time and money. The human eye cannot detect the difference

I'll take digital over 35 mm or 70 mm film any day

not really sure what crowbar means. of course the human eye can tell the difference. it's a huge difference. it's a wider 35mm image vs a taller 70mm image. the amount of visual processing done by your eye on IMAX screens is easy to tell, because there's a higher resolution in the 70mm film because of the IMAX film itself and lenses used.

to further complicate the matters, i believe there is exists a digital 70mm full imax experience now. but don't quote me on that. i was told digital imax cameras are on the market and brand new, requiring no reels.
