Ian's newest CD is with the old Ian Moore Band lineup. In fact, it was recorded 15 years ago shortly before their breakup and just recently released. Good stuff.

Johnny Winter, although I guess he's older and may have been one of SRV's influences. He's not one of the "usual suspects" when SRV's musical ancestry is discussed, but he's a really good blues guitarist. SRV has that fat crunchy bottom end sound, where JW's is more speedy and melodic, but definitely worth a listen for SRV fans.

Freddie Everett

He is dead now but the guy could flat play. Do a search on YouTube, you will not be disappointed.

Clarence "gatemouth" brown is also very good.

This is one of John Mayer's best solos, IMO:

North Mississippi Allstars are playing a pre-ACL show at Antone's on the 15th. The band is fronted by Luther Dickinson, who also joined the Black Crowes a couple of years ago. As you can guess by their name, it's a delta blues rock sound.

Re: John Mayer. Check out his second album...the live one. He does a cover of SRV's Lenny. Pretty damn good too. I was deployed in '03 when it came out and bought it off a recommendation from someone who likes guitar.

He is a genius in my opinion....he knows he plays bubble gum pop despite his influences, of which SRV is one of the biggest. He's appeared in multiple blues gatherings and shown his good chops. Yet, he figured away to break out of the local music scene where he would have remained otherwise.

To each his own, but he now plays with the best of them as a result. Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, etc etc etc.

Really enjoyed the posted video of North Mississippi Allstars playing Keep the Devil Down, but wasn't a huge fan of the rest of their work.

Mato Nanji is a great find. Recommend everyone sample Red House from Indigenous' album Live at Pachyderm!
