I'm building a playlist of good SRV-type, Texas Blues music. I'm not looking for the old original players that were SRV's inspiration (BB King, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, etc.) I'm looking for guys that came out after or around the same time as SRV.

My list so far has stuff by these guys:

Ian Moore
Kenny Wayne Shepherd
Chris Duarte
Hadden Sayers
Arc Angels
Eric Johnson (doesn't really fit)
Jeff Healy Band (also a stretch)

Any suggestions?

John Mayer Trio definitely has some SRV influence, you just have to get past the whole John Mayer thing. The guy can play guitar.

This. His poppy stuff is pretty girly, but his blues work is fantastic. Has a great cover of Bold As Love by Jimi

Holy Crap! Wes Jeans looks awesome! I youtubed him also. Totally unknown to me.

Thanks for the other suggestions. I'll check them out.

I thought Los Lonely Boys was too poppy, but I'm sure I'm only familiar with their radio friendly tunes.

I went to high school with Wes (year older than me), he's been playing since he was around 15 I'd guess. Very talented with a guitar (taught himself).

Dough,
I wouldn't even mention Guy Forsyth in the same library with SRV. Maybe he was just having a VERY bad day, but the time we saw him, we couldn't get out of the place fast enough.

Seth James. Been a while since I heard anything from him but back when I was in school he was really good.

Froppe,
that's REALLY surprising to me. I have seen Forsyth probably 20 times in the past 10 years and every time has been an incredible show.

Give him another try.

I have seen Eric Tessmer play many times down on 6th Street

his sound has gotten a bit heavier over the years, but he'd be a good one to check out

Another vote for Seth James. He may not play as well as SRV but he can sing just like him.

Jonathan Tyler & the Northern Lights are somewhere between SRV and say, Jackyl...more of a guitar-based party rock sound than a bluesy Buddy Guy sound.

Think SRV's "The House is Rockin" instead of "Texas Flood" if it helps putting it that way...

If you're looking for a SRV clone, forget it. There will never be anyone that can play the guitar like Stevie used to. However, there are some great guitarist today. Joe Bonamassa is the real deal. He is the top up and coming blues/rock guitarist.

Monte Montgomery is pretty amazing on the guitar.

I have to agree with this. Getting past the pop version of John Mayer and listenting to his blues heavy songs, especially live, it's hard to not close your eyes and hear the SRV influence in his style.

I think Try! is the only official album that John Mayer Trio has put out..but they also have a segment on Where The Light Is that I prefer

There are also several pretty good bootlegs of John Mayer Trio floating around out there

I noticed you had Arc Angles on there. Anything with Doyle Bramhall II is worth checking out. His solo stuff is pretty solid, although does get poppy at times. I believe he was also part of a band called Smoke Stack.

His story is interesting as well since he grew up with SRV and learned from him.

Once I saw him with the Arc Angels on the ACL SRV tribute, I was hooked. Watching lefties play the guitar upside down is also fun to watch.

I like Doyle Bramhall II a lot.

I listened to some current Ian Moore yesterday. What the hell? Pick a style, buddy. His current (last decade) music is total top 40 pop wannabe.

He still has a great voice, and he's obviously an incredible musician.
