this is just my review of it...please post your thoughts on what you liked/disliked about the show....
since it appeared that the first thread about it got hijacked about other shows, i figured i'd start one....
i have to say i loved this first show....i think the characters are great, especially the kids...the interaction between the father and each child at the beginning i thought was spot on funny
the wife character is definitely the weak link in the show, but that doesn't necessarily make it bad....marge simpson to me was always the least interesting (including maggie) and i still love everything about "classis simpsons"
the plot in a pilot episode is always rough, because they have to set a stage for the background of what the show is actually about...it's difficult cause it has to have an interesting story, and at the same time build a base set up for the future shows to follow off of
for example....is the health inspector going to be a recurring character from time to time? or was he just part of this first show?
there was a particular scene that was almost touching to me...where bob is outside the store, staring at his reflection, talking to himself on how much of a personal failure he's been...it was funny in a sad kind of way, that i think of lot of people could relate to...
...up until that point he was a man with a dream of owning his own restuarnt, that's failed many many times, and even though it looked like it was impossible, he kept coming back because it was his dream...at that point with him staring at himself in the mirror, it was as if he was ready to officially give up, when his family finally stepped in when needed and got him back on his feet.
there were several quick scenes that had be rolling....in particular it was when hardly any words were spoken....for example, the protestor sign that stated "don't taste me bro" got me good.....another one was the sign on the crematorium door...i can't remember what it said, something blatant like, "we dont sell your loved ones for food" or something like that...had me laughing pretty hard too.
the part i was most worried about though was the kids....it always seems with children they come in 3's (simpsons, family guy, american dad if you count the alien, home improvement to name a few)....they seemed to have distinct, funny characteristics about them, that i think could take this show a long way....
the major drawback i see, is the setting....it would be easy to make some great episodes at the beginning, but after a while unless if they come up with something new that fits, i worry that the constant setting of a fast food restuarnt will grow stale.....it's small, and there's really only a few different scene shots of the whole place not counting the street or the next door crematorium....a lot of good material is going to be required if they plan on every episode having the main focus being that store.
anyways, that's one mans 2 cents....what do y'all think?
edit: dear christ there were a lot of typos...that's what i get for writing too fast.
