The Doors, because they had Johnny Drama.

CCR in my opinion. Both of them were really before my time, but I much prefer the sound of CCR.

Creedence, no question. The Doors made some good music, but they've always struck me as sort of a hallucinogenic-type rock band and nothing more. Creedence, meanwhile, was California rock, Southern rock, and to a fair degree, country.

Fogerty is a talented writer and did a masterful job of composing songs about an area of the world (the South) that he really didn't know personally.

I will say, however, that I think The Doors' "The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)" is a highly underrated song. A very weird song, though.

It really should be, who was better, Morrison or Fogarty.

And Morrison's body of work was cut short.

Odd comparison. Guess they come from the same time period, but totally different bands. I love the Doors, but would have to lean to CCR, mainly due to songwriting. Morrison fancied himself a poet, and he did write some decent songs, but were more enjoyable while being blitzed out of your mind. Fogarty's lyrics are just damn good, no matter your mental state.

CCR-
suzie Q
proud mary
bad moon risin
green river
down on the corner
Lodi
born on the bayou
fortunate son
travelin band
who'll stop the rain
up around the bend
looking out my back door
have you ever seen the rain

I'll add, 8 of those songs came off 3 records which were all released in 1969. that's beatles style right there.

all together, all those songs came off 6 albums in a 2 year span, 13 hits.. 8 were top 10.
that's impressive.

The Doors
Break on through
light my fire
people are strange
love her madly
hello, i love
touch me
riders on the storm.

only 2 were top 10 (though they were both #1).
All songs came off 6 albums in a 4 year span.

Not quite as impressive, prolifically speaking.

The Doors didn't even have a bass player and were still awesome.

I don't think they're directly comparable, as they were too different. Like how Randy Johnson and Greg Maddux were both great pitchers in the same era, but did it in completely different ways.

CCR because Fogerty was more talented than Morrison at living past 27.

Maddux over Johnson because he never sported a mullet.

They were both 4 piece hippie rock bands in the late 60s / early 70s. They shared a lot of the same audience.

I like CCR's music A LOT better. Great early rock and roll music with a lot of "stuff" behind it that really helped define an era of American History.

The Doors get the "Nirvana" boost. They didn't have time to become irrelevant or flame out before they were definitively over.

I agree with the apples and oranges comment.

I like both bands but prefer CCR.

If both bands were just starting today, I feel CCR would be bigger and the Doors would be just an opening act.

my first thought was apples and oranges too.

I like both bands, but both are very different from each other.

CCR was more pop/rock (when pop didn't mean bad things, look at all those charted songs)while the Doors were their own thing almost like a unique one band sub-genre. There has never been anything like them before, during their run or since Morrison croaked.

It is interesting to note that D. Boone and Mike Watt from the Minute Men were huge CCR fans and you can find some stuff on You Tube of the minute men covering CCR tunes, good stuff!

Overall talent-wise... The Doors. They all collaborated on songwriting, and each had a unique style that was essential to the band's sound.

That said, John Fogerty was clearly the most talented individual in either band, but essentially all of CCR's songs were written by him and for him. The rest of the band were spares, they knew it, and it's why they broke up after only 4 years.

It's also not close for me: The Doors.

Talented, original musicians. For a piano player growing up, The Doors were one of the few bands that really exhibited great keyboards.

I didn't name off my fav. ccr songs.. those were all charted hits.

I'll admit i left out roadhouse blues and LA woman, those were possibly hits.
however none of those other songs you listed were hits.

Though I voted for Creedence, I must say that "Roadhouse Blues" is a great tune. It has one of those "just plain cool" vibes to it that I love.

I was expanding on the OP's comparison of 'notable hit singles.'

i simply listed all of the 'hit singles' of both bands, and clearly CCR wins in the regard.

then someone comes and lists a bunch of random doors songs that he likes as if I left those off of my list.

Ray Manzarek was the most talented/skilled musician of either group. I'd say CCR was the better band though not as talented overall as The Doors.
