My little review of Meat Loaf from last night at House of Blues in Dallas:

1. Meat Loaf was great! His voice is obviously not as strong as it used to be, but he was the ultimate show man and brought the house down. I was worried at first because the third song was "Bat out of Hell" and I didn't think he'd make it through it....but he just seemed to pick up speed after that. Great show.

2. Opening band: Pearl. Pearl is Meat Loaf's daughter. Her voice is awesome! Scott Ian (Anthrax and her husband) played guitar, and the whole set was great.

3. Paradise by the Dashboard Light was raunchy, cheeky, fun!! Imagine a 12 foot blow up doll and a t-shirt gun made out of male privates.

4. House of Blues was a great venue! I'd never been there. It was very intimate. However: BOO on drink prices and only having two bartenders. That sucked.

All in all....great show! I'm glad I finally saw him live!!!

ive always wanted to see ML. as far as orchestration and arrangements go, i put him up there with Bruce.

what's funny, i read an article that when Rundgren produced BoH, he was actually trying to spoof the Boss...

oh snap! - just did some wiki - Max and the Professor sessioned on the track! viva interwebs!

I have seen Mr. Aday in Stadiums and Arena's but this tour in a small venues was completely different. Almost like a VH1 unplugged set. We where about 40 feet from his sweaty face! He talked a lot, which he doesn’t usually do. Patti Russo was also great!
By the way really liked Pearl and her band, Ian did not play the night we saw them. I think Anthrax is about to go on tour too.

For $300 you could have had a meet and great with Meat and Pearl and a bunch of signed stuff.

Houston show tonight was worth the money....but is it acceptable to say that "I respect ML, but don't really love most of his music?" First time that comment has been used by me personally, but it appears to fit.

I agree his voice isn't what it has been, but he's in his 60's and made up for the voice by engaging the crowd and working his true entertainer talents.

fyi - There were 8 people plus ML on stage. This was by far the most elaborate set I've seen at HOB Houston since it opened in October 2008. Good show, but I've checked the box and won't be seeing him again. I hit an early meet-and-greet with Pearl today in Houston before the show to get some stuff signed. I'll post pics next week, but Pearl really has some great music.
