Just curious, but how had you never seen it before? I remember seeing it in the theater when it came out
I believe it came out around Christmas 1990, when I was graduating from A&M. Had a lot of other far higher priorities at the time than seeing what looked like a fingernails-on-the-chalkboard movie.
Then there was just never a desire to watch it until last year when my daughter was nominally old enough to watch it. The same has applied to other classics like the first two Toy Story movies, many of the other Disney movies, or movies that weren't geared toward adult males.
edit - I had actually seen bits and pieces of Home Alone on various TV stations over the years. Last year when I finally watched it from beginning to end, I was pleasantly surprised.
So yeah, we'll be watching this one each Christmas from now on, to go along with the others I listed above and also the Jim Carrey and classic animated Grinch movies.
