Best Movie I've seen!

I will say this, and take it for what it's worth. I saw it this weekend, and the theater broke into applause not once, but twice. I don't think I've ever been to a movie in my life where I've seen that happen.

Personally, I really enjoyed it.

I took my 5 year old. Damn preview for The Last Airbender came on and scared the crap out of him. He freaked out and we had to leave.

I'm still pissed. Gonna try again.

Isn't Karate Japanese? Why did the kid go to China to learn it?

Karate is from Okinawa.

And he didn't learn Karate, he learned Kung Fu.

Its not really a remake, just a similar movie with the same title.

Wow. It's a freaking movie. Enjoy it.

The Karate Kid (original) was so great that my drinking buddies and I could have done a late night puppet show based on the original, and it would have been received just as warmly. With the genius of the original material, there is no way to go wrong. Its like making ice.

However, I reject that today's "artists" (movie makers) are so lacking in original ideas that they are willing to duplicate ideas like this. Recycling is going to happen. There are only so many major themes to explore (man vs man, man vs nature, etc.). I'm okay with reusing major themes. Duplicating scripts is just lazy and greedy.

I plan to purchase tickets to a different movie and sneak into "The (duplicate) Karate Kid". I don't want to support lazy, unoriginal artists, but I want to see the movie.

Hopefully its as good as the puppet version we did last weekend (which did include "You're the Best", by the way). All video was destroyed. Apologies.

...also I resent Will Smith's kid getting pushed down my throat. (I have no rhyme or reason to this....just can't stand him but can't articulate why)

The problem with the original, watching it as an adult, is that I would kick Ralph's ass. What a puss. The first fight...meh...he did the right thing.

The soccer game? What a puss. What a way to make friends.

The bike? Yeah, maybe that was uncalled for.

But, the hose on Johnny while he was rolling his joint? That was idiotic.

So, If I were Miagi, I would've told him to quit being deutchbag, and people will quit picking on you.

Random movie fact, but Mr. Miyagi said his great grandfather developed their Karate style when he got drunk on his fishing boat and was swept onto China. During his time in China is where he learned the kind of Karate Miyagi used.

Redoing Karate Kid is tantamount to sacrilege. The casting in the original was perfect. It'd be like redoing The Goonies or Back to the Future.

Just leave them the hell alone.

No surprise here, but every single person criticizing the movie didn't see it. Some people need to remove the stick from their intimate regions. No, you don't have to see it if you don't want. But it's retarded to have the attitude some of you have.

i am actually looking fwd to seeing it and will probably see it tonight. loved the original and actually liked 2 and 3 a lot. i am not a hyper-sensitive karate kid fanboy though.

Also, I saw the original Karate Kid when I was in kindergarten, and it served me just fine.

As a 30 year old adult, I have no desire to see a movie about a little kid learning karate and beating up his bullies.

saw it last night and was impressed with it. not an oscar winning performance by any cast members but a good movie that delivers a good storyline.

How's this for making you feel old: Ralph Macchio is going to turn 50 next year. 50!!!! That's basically the same age Pat Morita was when they shot Karate Kid.

this is why i won't ever watch it. don't ride the coattails of a classic movie that i grew up watching. its the same reason i think the new gladiator, excuse me robin hood movie is absolute crap. call that movie anything else and its a fantastic movie. don't *******ize a good move just to try and steal tickets from the title

I saw it.

Here's my take....

A little long, and you better like the urban China setting. The kids are all too young. Jaden Smith looks, acts, and sounds like a young girl. Voice hasn't changed, and he has girl hair, girl features, and girl skin, probably because he's so freaking young. Overall, I did enjoy the movie. My favorite part was the song right before the competition began where he finally kicks the bell (come on, that's not a spoiler). But in 3 words.... enjoyable but forgettable.

The original still stands as the better of the two and an unmatched classic.
